Yer nan's knickers
I got royally shafted by Quotemehappy because I was lazy, which means my premiums went up from £65 a month to £135 a month.

This means I need to find a new policy for peanuts, but I'm just wondering if there are any tricks I need to know.

I'll be using the usual sites:

Gocompare
Comparethemarket
Moneysupermarket
???

On top of that I'll also be looking at Adrian Flux to see what they can do.

Now I'll probably use a form filler thingy to just fill in the forms for me so I don't have to type out the same stuff a million times, unless there's a trick to this?

Anyone got any other ideas or tricks?

Ta :)

I don't know many actual tips but I noticed that back when I was first trying to put lots of different stuff in time after time to work out what the different companies like, Admiral randomly started quoting more and more and then stopped quoting, so I had to switch to using pseudonyms :p.

Adrian Flux lmfao stay clear of these idiots so much bad press on most car forums about them.

Pay yearly if you can, probably the best saving you can make. Otherwise try fiddling around with different versions of your job title, try different mileages near what you might do, try fully comp if you're currently looking at TPFT, try adding an additional driver.

Try starting the policy on different dates. Sounds mental, but I once saved around £60 for not starting the policy until a few days later.

I went through comparethemarket once for a quote for my in-laws, and re-ran the quote with a different start date for every day for a month to see what worked best. Obviously after a while it leveled off, but there were significant enough differences just from a different start date. In that case it was only about £20 difference, but as the policy was less than £200 anyway, it was still over 10%.

Just adding the missus or a parent as an additional driver helps generally.

Avoid Flux, I won't go near them again that's for sure.

flux are a pain in the arse but always came out cheapest for me last few years. The more modifications you declare cheaper it is. Was 500 for the year at 22 for a 440bhp car with 40+ Modifications declared.

One trick i've found it's cheaper to park your car on the street than drive way usually. I'm old now 6 years driving so doesn't make a difference for me anymore Named drivers and changing to parking on the street made a difference when i first started driving.

Park it on the road even I you have a drive. Knocked a few quid off for me

Also say you have access to another vehicle. Even if it's your parents etc

How might insurance companies verify the amount of
mileage you've declared is accurate?

They might go on MOT's/service records i guess if it got to that. It is an "estimate" after all so I imagine if you are a 1-2k miles out they would have a hard time worming their way out of anything but if you had done something like 15k when you estimated only 5k you might be in a spot of bother.

If you have an accident on your commute to the office that's 50 miles from your home, where you're employed full time, they might realise you're doing more than 5000 miles a year

I increased my mileage estimate from 10K to 15K recently, but now I suspect it will actually be closer to 21K... :(

wait till you have to make a clam then you see why they are so cheep .

By changing my job title inputted (both totally relevant and cover what I actually do, just one being more specific) saved me £270, and thats all I changed...

Its insane!

What I have noticed lowers insurance

- 6000 miles a year is the cheapest
- Co habit over single
- Parked on a drive way over a garage
- Job titles are vague and multi job titles can fit what you do, so chose the cheapest
- Adding women to the policy no longer brings the policy price down

Ultimately what determines the biggest part of the price and hardest to change are:

- Age
- Driving history
- Car
- Post code

That said, I'd suggest you don't lie on your insurance to get a few £££s off :p

Recently found a difference of £20 from the same company just by changing the start date to one day later. Also saw a £30 saving by increasing my car value to something nearer what I'd privately sell for rather than their guesstimate of about half the value :p
