What is the cheapest car (inc. cars from 99-01+) for 'fresh' drivers aged 17-19?
Once I managed to get a quote for 3 door polo 01 1.0l engine which was around 1400 pounds, but my dad was the main driver.

EDIT:

Without anyone assigned to my insurance it's 2,5k for comprehensive

If you don't mind something bigger than a Mondeo sized car can sometimes be cheaper to insure than a supermini.

But the quotes your getting is roughly average for a new drive of that age.

I would prefer a bigger car, but it seems like everyone says that a smaller car is cheaper to insure? Do you know any instance, were a bigger car was cheaper then e.g. Yaris?

I'm not too bothered about a car, 125cc will cost me 300 quid for a year. After riding for 2 years on 125cc, the insurance for a bigger bike will be around 300-500 for me so... I prefer 2 wheels anyway, a car during traffic is a pain in the ***.

An example would be me, a few years ago went from a MK3 Fiesta 1.3 paying £1500 for insurance to a MK2 Mondeo 2.0 paying £800 that was with an accident claim and a theft claim the previous year

Was fiest your first car? For how long were you insured before mondeo?

£500 and dress like a power ranger in this freezing wet weather or £1300ish and be in a nice warm car.

Know what i would pick with this weather :p

Yes, my first car was a 2.0 Honda Accord, couple of hundred quids cheaper than 1.0 supermini's. Others of similar size were also cheaper, I nearly bought a Primera GT but unfortunately it sold, and that was cheaper to insure than the Accord!

Most new drivers and young drivers tend to buy supermini's as first cars so that have high statistical rates of accident, whereas cars like Accords, Mondeos etc tend to be driven by older and mature drivers and have less unsavoury statistic's attached to them.

Do some quotes on a few cars like that and see what kind of prices you get.

3k for mondeo mk2 1,8 16v gix 95
7,7k Honda accord vtec 1.8 sport 01

So far this trick doesn't work for me...

This is weird, how come bigger more powerful cars are cheaper then small little 1.0L? To me this doesn't make sense...

If your dad is main driver then that would be fronting (fraud) when you are actually the main driver. It is perfectly legal to have him as a named driver though.

That's what I meant, wrong wording...

It's because small cars are bought by younger drivers, who crash more than older drivers, so insurance companies deem them to be too risky. Your best bet is a larger car with a small engine: something like a Mazda 3 1.4, Astra 1.4, Octavia 1.4, Volvo 850 2.0 etc etc

I'd say a Mondeo is definitely worth the extra £200 on insurance. Other costs on them are quite reasonable too.
