Hello All,

I've just got my Dad a 4k 120hz capable monitor, his old GPU (Nvidia 720 I think!) can only handle 4k 60hz, he doesn't game or do anything more stressful than browse the web edit MP3's etc and therefore wants to spend as little as possible, it seems the Nvidia 4030 card isn't available and I'm clueless when it comes to AMD, can anyone suggest anything or is it just not on the market yet? (AMD would be fine, I've just not had one for a long time and out of the loop)

Thanks,

Why bother if he won't benefit from going above 60hz ?
Not sure on that as people pay extra for things like the iPad Pro due to it having a 120hz screen which is meant to make even things like screen scrolling smoother/better

I haven’t used a 60hz monitor for home use for about 9 years, didn’t realise people still bought 60hz monitors

So guys does a 120hz or higher refresh rate monitor make any difference for normal computer use ?

Yeah its easy to tell over 60hz just from the desktop. Easier than in gaming in my opinion.

RX 6400 has HDMI 2.1, though it also has a very basic media support (& no encoding or AV1 decode) which could be an issue.

Sparkle A310/A380 have DP 2.0, though I don't know if lacking rebar (if the PC is too old) would be an issue for desktop use (certainly is for games).

There is no DP on the Monitor, it's actually a 48" LGOLED CX...I use similar and 120hz is smoother for everyday use, so a HDMI 2.1 card would be useful. I'll look at the RX 6400...

Cheers all,

FYI: if you're going that route, only the 6600 has the full encoder/decoder hardware, the 6400 and 6500 XT both have the cut-down support. I'd also make sure the specific model you buy has hdmi 2 because with the 7600 for example, DP 2.x is an optional feature and some cards are only 1.4.
