Cheapest Core 2 Duo Upgrade Route?

Hey guys,

Whats the cheapest way to get a core 2 duo setup? I understand just get the cheapest C2D the E2140 and I'm happy to and I know how to overclock.

But what motherboard and memory would be the best for overclocking it to say 3ghz on a tight budget?

how tight is the budget?

try a abit IP35 and OCZ platinum pc26400 RAM with a E2180 and freezer 7 pro cooler

the e2180 has a 10x multiplier so 3ghz is easier to achieve and is worth the money

Do you know if you can run a Sata 2 RAID 0 with the onboard chipset or doesn't it have a raid controller?

I could even use the Asrock board as a stepping stone to allow me to keep my current ram then upgrade again when I can get RAM and new Mobo. Decisions decisions!

for a very low budget then the asrock can be good but dont expect to OC well with that MB though. also check cpu compatibility list to see if it will support the cpu first.

If it was me id take a look at the Gigabyte P31 board for £55 and 2gb of the geil ULL for £35

Should overclock nice as well

Yeh I 2nd that the DS3L looks very good for the money, and the 2gb of geil you just can't fault - unsure about the OCZ at around £35, but apparantly that's good stuff aswell.
