cheapest CPU/MOBO/+8GB RAM spec?

Hi,

I recently posted in the memory section (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17996025)

Basically i have a memory hungry program and I need 8GB of RAM to do what i need to do. In the memory section someone kindly pointed out that my asus a8n sli premium mobo would only take 4GB of ram. I need to upgrade my cpu anyway from an athlon64 4000+ san diego 939.

I wasnt going to upgrade my computer because I dont really have the money but i might be able to get work to pay for it. So I basically need some help on a spec. I need a new mobo, CPU and 8GB of RAM. The cheaper the better... but I am keen on a decent price/performance ratio.

The RAM doesnt need to be fast, its only capacity that is the issue.

Anything new must be miles better than my current 4000+ san diego 939 and 2GB of ram.

Well you may as well go for something as expensive as you'd anticipated then, and get much better performance

good point... well i didnt (and still dont) want to spend more than £250 tbh... but i always end up spending more than I had wanted heh.

Do you mind if I ask what program you need 8gb of RAM for?

its called imageJ which i need to run on 64bit windows or linux. Its image analysis software.

Im really sorry for wasting your time... I have found a computer in my department at university with 8GB of memory running CentOS which I just installed imageJ on and it works.

Is there a way to close this thread so no one else wastes their time? hrmm well I guess if they read this they will know but someone might miss it.

Sorry again, I have been stressing, I have 5 more months left to write my phd thesis, and this was a big stumbling block... All is sorted now
