As title guys, I've had a little idea...

I like to encode my OWN dvd's into .mp4 for itunes enjoyment on the computer (and soon apple tv).

Now as to date I've only done like 25ish dvd rips for storing on this computer, the reason being is I use this computer a hell of a lot and it takes the computer's resources while its being used.

Now this made me think, how about a rock bottom quad core machine, no graphics, atleast 2GB and a SATA HDD? Something that will be happy to churn out system draining programs like encoding? or crunching

What is best options you can think of?

Cheers

Well thats another small annoying problem, I'm running out and now my eyes are set on an Imogen 1TB Firewire for the iMac.

I dunno for the system really? atleast 200GB for temporary measure? Will be moved to the above itunes hdd?

I made this before you replied. Swap the HDD for a cheap 250 GiB model.
I'd use a barebones case/mobo/PSU, but OcUK doesn't have any in stock.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot the optical disk. That's important. :p

EDIT2: Ahh, that's better

Cheers matey, nice setup there!

Just to clear up some other infor I left out, OS isnt a problem and monitor/keyboard/mouse is already sorted...

So it really is just a box I need!

BTW, what a great mobo?!?! I could infact use it to host some raided hdd's, far cheaper than getting that external...

And using an gigabyte ethernet network it wont be to shabby at speeds neither!

How does this look then:

Asus Terminator-Type Box (Pretty sexy too!) T3-P5G965A - £100(ish)

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM - £158

2GB PC6400 - £35

500GB (7200,32mb) - £65

Decent DVDRW - £20
