Whats the cheapest quadcore system you can build with 4 gigs of memory?
No monitor/keyboard/mouse just the base system?

edit: The motherboard should also support up to 8Gb of memory

Ok, just some people want quad just for the sake of it when they dont really need it, you do so no worries. Are you wanting to play games on PC too? Also what size screen have you got?

erm.. no dont really want it for gaming any cheap graphics card will do but might upgrade the graphics card in the future. Ive got a ****** 17inch screen.

Maybe something like this?

EDIT: Change the retail Q6600 to the OEM one, should save you about £16

About £500 to get reasonable set up, you prob could cut another few corners, depends if you're wanting cheap or quality, this set is all v good except the gfx card, if you wanted to you could add £100 to the budget and get a reasonable gfx card that'll handle pretty much anything on your 17" screen for next few years, if so look at a 4850

lol both systems look almost identical :D ^^^^^^

Looks good, is it posible to cut back on the power supply? 60 quid seems a bit too expensive. What about the case+psu combos? They work out cheaper dont they?

Is a decent power supply though, won't have any issues with it - worth it just for the re-assurance.

That's the cheapest GOOD power supply we could find on OcUK. Don't skimp on the PSU, you will regret it in the end.

that only saves you £6 and whilst the PSU is OK, its not as good as the Corsair, and has lower wattage.
Do not get that mobo, Abit have gone bust, therefore you'd have no support, and its the old P35 chipset

is this a good power supply?

Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU

Its on a competitor website for 53 pounds

The Abit board is perfect for the Quad and if your after cheap then it ticks that box. It will last you many years and I'm sure you can return it to OCUK within the warranty time frame.

The Earthwatts PSU is made by Seasonic, and is very good, don't let the bland styling put you off or the fact it comes bundled with a relatively Silent Case http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/492 (and it's a decent quiet case).

Here is a review of the Earthwatts PSU:

The Corsair is near on identical:

This power supply is manufactured by Seasonic. It looks like a Seasonic from SII-12 series (SS-xxxSB) but we couldn’t confirm this. Also Seasonic doesn’t carry any 450 W model, so it seems that this model is manufactured exclusively for Corsair. After opening this power supply we found out that internally it is identical to Antec Earthwatts 500 W, but using better electrolytic capacitors......

If you have to keep to a strict budget then these componants will be found cheaper at competitors. Otherwise for a more future proof system the options already given are better.

Thanks for all the help guys, just one last question, does the gigabyte mobo overclock well?
Cause i want to be able to overclock the q6600 to atleast 3.6ghz.
