This used to be how I used the iplayer, before they changed the rules and required the license for ANY iplayer content.
That's a bit of a muddled statement. I think what you're saying is that iPlayer used to be licence-exempt so long as you weren't streaming live. Yes, that used to be the case. Now there's a licence requirement for any content from iPlayer be it live, delayed or downloaded.
On a side note, it would be interesting to see a link that verifies that every single Freeview channel except the subscription ones has an official streaming app.
