Cheapest way to go C2D

Yep, you could go Core2Duo with those two parts, the motherboard accepts DDR Ram and PCI-E graphics cards as well as DDR2 for when you have more cash/need the upgrade. It is highly unlikely to overclock well but I'm assuming a stable system is your first priority. :)

Yes, exactly.

I can get the above for £190 actually ;)

Surely that alone would be a huge boost over my old s939 system? Or wouldn't i see much a boost untill i added the dd2 ram later on?

Excited now :)

Just worried it would die in a few days like my 939 has done for unknown reasons.

By the way, are you saying a highly unlikley to o/c well because of the mobo, or me using ddr400 memory with a c2d?

At stock speeds the E6600 is roughly comparable to an X2 4800/5000 if memory serves and is possibly even faster. There isn't a huge benefit in speed terms of going for DDR2 over DDR but there is sometimes more headroom for overclocking I believe. Not that any of this overclockability would really matter at the moment anyway.

//edit highly unlikely because of the motherboard, it is a cheap option which usually limits the overclocking options. It might work for some overclocking but not as much as say a Gigabyte DS3P would allow.

Should also consider a surge protector & or UPS if you suspect 'killer' could be dodgy electrics/socket. You can't say that the new build will be bullet-proof therefore take the same chances!

That said, Seasonic PSUs (including Corsair) are supposed to survive bad power by cutting off or worst case scenario taking themselves out & no other component.

One of my adaptors is suppost to have surge protection on it :(

I still dont know whats causing this.

Anyone know where i can can a sutiable adaptor thats got at least 3meter cable? That could run tv/freeview/and everything connected to my pc.?

So you recon i could go conroe with keeping my psu / ram

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £39.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
£125.99

Sub Total : £165.98
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri) Shipping : £8.25
VAT is being charged at 17.50% VAT : £30.49
Total : £204.72

Id only be running one sata hard drive and one dvd drive.

I can also add better ram / psu on later pay days if above would be ok!

I have that motherboard, and I use only a no-name 400W PSU to power my ATI x1950 pro AGP and the e2160 chip is running at 2.7Ghz (50% overclock)...I think the E6600 is a bit overkill for this board..Probably best off with a e4400 or an e2160. the e2160 is less than 1/2 the price of the e6600 as well.

hehe ive just re-specd my new c2d build from your sig in another thread hehe

hows this sound

ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA PT880 Ultra Socket 775 SATA 8 channel audio ATX
Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail Boxed Processor

Re-use my psu and ram

How is E6600 overkill for the Asrock??

If you have the money defo get the E6600, the 4Mb L2 does make a difference over 1Mb, then save up for a decent mobo + DDR2/3 in the future. If you want to overclock with the Asrock then get the E4400.

I was just saying that since he's comming from an x2 3800, even the cheap e2160 will blow his old setup away. The e6600 is a good chip, no doubt about that, but considering I can get my e2160 up to 2.7Ghz (and higher) I think it's worth saving the money, especially since he's said he's on a budget. Also, the e4400 will hit 3Ghz easy, because of the 10x multiplier, and it cache is bigger than the e2160. Anyway you look at it really he'll be getting a nice fast system on the cheap.

Intel C2D e6320 - £111.61
DFI Infinity 975X S775 - £93.99
Geil 2gb PC6400C5 (800mhz) - 56.39
Akasa Ultra Quiet 400W Paxpower - £41.11

Delivered = £313.62

I've ordered the following

ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA PT880 Ultra Socket 775 SATA 8 channel audio ATX
Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail Boxed Processor

Im really coming from a 3200venice @2.5 because i diddnt really get to see any benefit from the 3800x2, it diddnt work properly!

That cpu IS a core2duo right? :p

£88 upgrade ;)

Yes the CPU is a C2D with 1mb L2 although strictly speaking it's named "Pentium Dual Core".

You won't regret it m8, hope everything works out for you.
