Hey,
Been wanting to get a wide angle lens as I want to shoot some landscape and architectural photographs. I study architecture and have a trip around Europe in 3 weeks and want to get a wide angle lens by then, as a student I don't have a lot of money to spend (so thats the Canon 10-22mm out :() Could you kind folks recommend a cheap but good wide angle lens for me? I think I want to spend max £250 but the cheaper the better!

Thanks!

Tokina 12-24mm, £260 imported from Hong Kong (stuff I have bought usually takes around 10-12 days from this store).

I think I can mention the store as AFAIK they only sell DSLRs, lenses and accessories (not memory cards) but I would have to check first.

I'm trying to get a wide angle lens. A mate is in Hong Kong but what with the £ rate falling faster than a fat man thrown from the top of a very large building it ain't any cheaper than the bay.

I'm gonna get a sigma 10-20mm for £270 off the bay. All the reviews I've read have said it just as good as the Canon and even if it's slightly worse, I'm not going to be able to notice the difference.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies. I heard good things about the Sigma but I'm a bit reluctant to go with them because I've been told there is a large proportion of them are very soft in quality? I've seen Tamron 11-18mm F4-5.6 AF SP XR Di II for sale for £270 is that a good price or it the Tokina 12-24mm one better? Also is there a big difference between 10mm and 12mm?

How about this: You can get the Sigma 10-20mm from a well known high street camera shop for £299.99. You can do that using a voucher code, and if you like you could pick it up from your closest branch instead of getting it delivered. This way, for £299.99 you could get 10mm UWA - from a known lens - and if you pick it up in person you could try it before hand and probably have more luck returning it, if you decide you are unhappy with the sharpness.

heard this a few times, know many people with this lens (it's the lens for UE) - never heard of any of them having a 'bad 'un'

It's very subjective. I don't really rate mine as Good, and some images I think are bad. (usually when I have put an something down near the bottom edges where the sharpness seems poorest). I still have it though, and one day will put it on a tripod and do an objective test.
