Cheapest Windows 10?

I think there was a large thread started by Ace Modder about not being able to transfer licenses after a mobo replacement - regardless of OEM/Retail.

This may only apply to upgrade licenses though. I'm not sure how they could justify selling a windows 10 retail version and only have a single use activation out of it.

EDIT: here it is.. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18684558 have a read.

From the link...seems straight forward...

"If you upgrade from a retail version, it carries the rights of a retail version."

Not if you buy the retail version instead. Heck in one year, we will all have to buy the retail version anyway.

Em no.
Laptop mobo can't be upgraded.
A little htpc thing, mobo cmt be upgraded.
Tablet move can't be upgraded.

Desktop and tablet will remain in insider anyway so even if I upgrade desktop, it'll have no affect.

MS really need to clarify this.

Even after a year should be able to install 8 on a new PC and upgrade to 10 on a retail 8 key as long as the key previously has been upgraded as I understand it.

Nope. They have confirmed this over and over again.

The 8 key remains retail and can be transfered. The 10 upgrade is tied to the motherboard. So after a year if you move the 8 license to another machine you will need to buy the upgrade to 10, at whatever it then costs

I ended up buying it as well. Kept getting activation errors, massive pita, reinstalled 8.1 onto new SSD, activated, upgraded, activated, clean install, wouldn't activate, no joy. Got bored after trying for 4 days, bought the key from the store, instant activation, I'm not bothered about paying for it, I'll upgrade hardware several times anyway and I think it's a fair price for something I'll use everyday for the next few years. Now it's working, I'm liking it very much.
