Now this is a lot of money so I want the build to be good and last at least a couple of years without needing a single upgrade.

Main uses will be;

Playing latest PC titles in 2D and stereoscopic 3D
Watching 3D Bluray movies
Harddrive imaging and analysis
General internet stuff

Please suggest any changes I should make in order to get best performance for price, it is a lot of money for me to spend so I want it to be amazing :D thanks in advance!

Well do you need the extra features that Deluxe mobo gives you over the Pro or even vanilla? If not then you could divert this money into a better gfx card

And instead of getting 2 sets of that Corsair stuff, Id just get this

Its more about future proofing than anything, the fact that ram is "value" is putting me off slightly, will it really perform better than the corsair?

Also what would the better GPU be from saving the money, baring in mind to do stereoscopic 3D gaming

Hi there,

Couple of suggestions if your interested:

3D gaming at 1080p is very demanding on the graphics card. Unless you were planning to go for two of those GTX 460 cards, then I would at least go for a GTX 570 - especially considering your bugdet.

As mythicdawn mentions, It would be a good idea to switch down to the cheaper pro board - its £50 less and you really don't loose much (and the money can be put towards a better GPU).

I would also suggest going for this monitor + 3D vision bundle. A bit cheaper than the LG (when you include the cost of glasses) and by all accounts a very nice 3D monitor.

Do you need 8GB of RAM? For the all the uses you mention above (except "Harddrive imaging and analysis" - I don't know how RAM heavy that is) 4GB is plenty. However, if you do want to go for 8GB I would strongly suggest going for a 2x4GB kit like this - as it puts less strain on the memory controller and allows for further memory upgrades.

Thanks for the reply andi, I was thinking of the 570, but with the 560 coming out at the end of the month i thought id play it safe with a 460. would getting an sli 460 / single 570 really see that much of an improvement in stereoscopic 3D?

I like having many tabs open in firefox at a time and that eats up ram like no tomorrow, from a full day use I can easily use up 3-3.5 of my ddr2 ram. I dont know how ddr2 differs to ddr3 in terms of how easy it is to eat up, but the extra room will be nice

If you are running windows 7 then the OS will just eat up as much unused RAM as it can take (technology called superfetch) - so the RAM utilisation is high, but the total used up by active apps is much smaller. So long as the memory usage doesn't overflow then it sounds like 4GB is sufficient for your uses.

DDR2 and DDR3 will be treated the same - DDR3 is just higher bandwidth.

It will be fine, however I would suggest going for this psu instead. its higher capacity, cheaper, more efficient and imho looks cooler. Here is a review.

Sorry to highjack the thread a little, just had a look at the PSU you suggested. It seems to perform mostly as good as a Corsair HX850W (which is what I was going to get), but about £50 cheaper?

One big difference is "non modular", it shouldn't make a big difference right? the unused cables can just lie at the bottom of the case?

If it's really that good then you'll have saved me some money :)

Aye, considering its price its a pretty excellent PSU.

It isn't quite on the same level as the corsair HX 850W, that PSU is 80+ Sliver (it was very close to gold) rated, made by CWT and offered with a 7 year warranty.

However, the XFX is still pretty darn good. It's 80+ Bronze rated, seasonic designed and offered with a 5 year warranty. For £80 you will be hard pushed to find a better PSU. Here is another review.

As for modular vs non-modular so long as you have somewhere in the case to stow the excess cable - not being modular shouldn't be a problem.
