Hi guys,

I'm building a new machine for myself.
At the moment I only have the case, everything else is being upgraded including the PSU. Let me know what you think and if compatibility is ok. I'm also trying to keep costs low. No need for heavy graphics hence the cheapy below.

Also - this is my first build with SATA, so I've no old cables lying around. Do OcUK bundles come with SATA cables for the DVD and HD?

Cheers I really appreciate the expertise! :)

if you can afford it i would look at the 2500K its a great bang for buck processor.
Also you may as well buy the normal chip and OC it yourself its very simple and can save you some money, also if you are overclocking its best to get a decent cooler the gelid tranquillo is a great buy for cooling. swap the hard drive for this great speed and reputation. I think the power supply is enough for this build and iam not sure about the cables iam afraid

noooo, dont waste ur budget on a 2500k for what your asking it is too much, also 8gb ram is wasted. i will put a spec together for you now that will beat the one you have, newer tech but hopefully spend less cash!

Hey, i specced an i3 2100, it beats the phenom in original spec and is cheaper, 4gb ram as you wont use 8gb, specced a mini itx board and case, this takes quite a lot of the budget, if you change to a h61 matx board you will save £80 alone on the case, got a modular psu on there for easy cable management too.

tbh with the sandy cpu's if your getting the k series, you can get a much higher oc by pressing the oc button on some boards, what is the overall budget? if its for vm's i would spec something completley different.

im not great with vm's, not sure if you would benefit more from an 8 core cpu with 8 gb ram, or if you got a phenom x6 and got 16gb ram. both would come out around the same, also both x6 cpus and bulldozer will clock very easily to the speeds in the bundle you chose.

thats what im saying, i dont know about vm's other than you need lots of ram, was unsure if 8 physical cores would be a good investment for vmware

i think 400 before delivery to Ireland is too expensive for me stulid. i'll have another think about the spec and will post back.

thanks again!

To make it cheaper there is a MSI H67 board at £61 and then a i5 2400

But you lose overclocking

What about this - comes in under 400 quid. I went for a lower CPU but leaving a good motherboard there, so that I can always upgrade the CPU at a later stage if needed.

I was toying with the idea of AMD but decided to stick with Intel for extra oomf! :)

Also is that cooler any good? I'd prefer something not too noisy, but dont want to spend a **** load just on a cooler. I wont be doing any major overclocking anyway.

Thanks for your help guys! I might order this evening if the spec above looks good to you geniuses :)

You won't need the cooler, you can't overclock a non K chip.

use the cost of the cooler to get a quad core i5.

Blast! Its another 50 quid on top in that case. It would play nice with Windows 7 and the 8gig of ram tho. Aaaaah decisions!!
