Check my spec, sort of.

Hey. This isn't things I'm considering buying, it's things I already have connected together in my computer. I'm considering adding to it in the interests of lower temperatures/less noise, but don't know what I need to change to achieve this.

Current components
18W ddc w/xspc top
EK supreme cpu block
EK full cover 8800gt block
Two feser 120mm radiators, both have a scythe s-flex pulling air through them from the outside.
8mm inner diameter tubing (I know, the mark of someone who ignored advice)

Cooling a q9550 and a 8800gt. Obviously my temperatures aren't terrible, loading around 65ish when overclocked.

I think the answer is to add another radiator, but I am not sure. I can see some air trapped in the ek processor block, which is probably not helping temperatures and may in fact be the problem. I can't tip the computer on its side at present (reservoir leaks if tilted, solving this in the near future), so it's possible that this is the only problem with the loop.

Any thoughts guys?

27 views and no answer. Oh well. I've bought another radiator, so will find out shortly if that was the limitation. If it isn't, I'll be back hoping for other suggestions

Tubing diameter has been show to make little to no difference.

I'd hazard to guess you would get better performance from 1 240 rad than the two 120's

Indeed, that's something my researched showed too. Also makes sense intuitively. I meant that had I heeded advice, I'd be running 7/16" over 1/2" barbs rather than any form of compression.

Depressing how much of this looks to be guesswork. I'm going from two 120's to two 120's and a 240, I'm told this will do nothing for temperatures but I struggle to see how this is the case. More fin area in exchange for lower flow rate seems worth a gamble.

Cheers Biffa

Since you've bought yourself another rad, you only have to buy yourself another pump/rez and you can go the whole hog and dual loop. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, GO ON! :)

Ha ha ha :)

I'd be more likely to get a second DDC and use one of the dual tops, single loop still makes more sense to me. I've been wondering if the reason for poor temperatures was actually incompetent bleeding procedures. My xspc reservoir leaks if it's tilted, so I was basically relying on running it for ages to remove the rest of the air. I've solved that problem now, but sadly system is on rma.

Worst case scenario is that I now have hopelessly overspecced radiators and will run my fans very slowly, testing the system to gauge how much headroom I have for a second gfx card is going to do my head in though.

No? I think it was a fantastic purchase.
Card is very nearly stable at 750mhz with it (rather than 600), and since it's running with quadro drivers it does amazing things for cad. Benchmarks look processor limited so a newer card seems a waste.
At 15 quid from MM I think that's the best purchase I've made in years :)

No apology needed mate, I think I'd have shied away from the cost at new. Well over half the loop is second hand, the block was a very lucky find though. Nice when that things work out well
