I already have a gpu, psu, and monitor.

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail with FREE TrackMania 2 Canyon PC Game £167.99

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £99.98

Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £73.99

BitFenix Shinobi Gaming Case - Black £49.99

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £47.99

OcUK Professional 2.5" to 3.5" SSD Adaptor Plate - Black £3.49

Any possible improvements for the same budget? Any noob errors? :p

The 460 can still cope, but it is starting to get old and will soon be in a wheelchair drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate before bedtime. It's a good budget card, sorry a great one, but with the i5-2500k the beating heart of the rig, don't you think it's a bit of a bottleneck for the system?

A GTX560Ti, now thats a good card, as well as the slighty faster 6950!

Eeek, hate to think how much my 2x GTX260s will bottleneck a 2500K when I order it. I'm stuck with those GPUs until the GTX6xx and 7xx series arrive!

@ Amraam: GTX260 Sli will be fine, not much of a bottleneck, as you are getting near twice the performance of one card. GTX260 Sli is around the same as a 480. So you will be fine in the time being until them cards do hit the market. PCI-E 3 support ***!

The board he has already runs the Z68 chipset and is future proof. No need for PCI-E 3.0 just yet! No cards going to be out for it for a while and even the next generation of GPUs wont be using PCI-E 3.0 anyways. There is no technology out their atm that uses PCI-E 3.0, so I do not see the point in spending £155 on a board that has all that stuff. Yes, ok it will be great for the future, but thats in at least 2 years time when the ati 8 series/gtx7 series (if they will call them that) will come out. The next gen, will still use PCI-E 2.0. Maybe the higher end cards of £300+ maybe, but no a normal card, that "normal" people can just about afford.

Thanks a lot for all the advice guys - much appreciated. :)

Think I'm gonna keep the graphics card as it is as I only have a 19" monitor so won't be gaming at stupid resolutions and I think my trusty 460 should be ok for now.

Tried to have a quick look but it doesn't seem that pci-e 3.0 cards are going to be arriving soon so may just stick with the mobo above - if medium range pci-e 3.0 gpus will be out in ~1 years time I might change my mind and go for the better mobo. :)

Will upgrade my gpu when I get a new monitor around christmas!

you're a amd cpu/mb user, what would you know about intel? ;)

but seriously, the motheboard will be there ready to support pci-e3.0 as when the cards are out and the op feels the need to upgrade, extra £55 now or double(or more) that in the future?

I agree with amraam. Ivy Bridge is the next step up from Sandy bridge. That is when you want to get PCI-E 3.0, when the full support of it is out on the market.

@ Fowler002: Just because I am an AMD user does not mean I know what I am on about. I chose AMD because of my budget at the time and because of the new Bulldozer chip. I have just designed my own case, my new system and the components I will be adding into it. So please do not patronise me just because I am an AMD user. I have had Intel systems in the past and loved them. I OC'd my old P4 from 3.2ghz to 4ghz on water cooling. I ain't stupid and don't like it when you say I don't know anything about intel, so please keep your opinions to yourself.

PCI-E 3.0: This is great technology and I will upgrade to it, when the time is right. Their is no support from ANY GPU on the market for the next year to year and a half for PCI-E 3.0. And to what Fowler002 was on about, Ivy Bridge will be out within a year (rumoured back end of 2012, as they don't want to get rid of Sandy Bridge just yet) and that will have PCI-E3.0 support. But you will have to wait until Nvidia and ATI decide to bring out their next generation of cards and their next cards may not even have PCI-E 3.0 support on them, that may have to wait until after the next gen cards are brought out and the newer cards after that will have the support. Dont spend money now, when Ivy Bridge comes out (ok they can be used in lga1155/SB boards) but not run at full speed, a new board will more or likely be required to get the most out of the new Ivy Bridge Processors. Which means, spending loads of money now on a new board, when he has one of the best Z68 boards out, and then if he updates to IB at the end of next year, he may have to get another board, which will have PCI-E 3.0 on it as standard.

@ AGD: Save your money atm, stick with the awesome board you already have and save up. ALl you need is a good GPU and your set dude!
