So long story short, been doing a musical project for a while now, but decided to knuckle down this summer and get a demo done in my home studio of sorts.

If you're into The Album Leaf, Mogwai, that kind of music, check it out:

The whole demo is available for free download here:

Very nice, very ******* indeed. Thanks for sharing.

All steps foward and Forever young are my favourites of the five.

Keep up the good work, These will be going into my regular plays for sure.

I really like this style of music, and this does not disappoint. I love the sounds, nice and relaxing but without becoming boring.

Damn brilliant stuff to be honest. Keep it up. :D

This is too cool for school, love it! Really easy on the ears and nice and chilled. Be nice to have a full album ;)

I'll keep working on and off this year on some new material towards an album of sorts, but depending on how much uni work i have depends on how much i'll get done. But next summer... oh you might just get what you wish for :P

Nice, spent about 30 seconds listenning so far. Not keen on that album cover, or the titles...however I suppose the contrast between the sparkling traffic lights and other lights against the overall 'greyness' of the whole picture is interesting. On reflection, I think it's quite representative of the music too, there are some quite 'sparkly' melodic notes but although relaxing, I find it a bit bleak and unsettling at times (I get the same thing with Mogwai). However I like some ambient electronic stuff now and again, like for instance the ghost in the shell soundtrack, so mixing it up with some subtle (or restrained?) guitar work is great (I also play guitar). Keep it up, cheers for the download. I will probably be playing this quite often. I love stuff that has been done in home studios, pretty impressive bearing that in mind.

Edit: Ok, like it quite a lot now! Do you use a real drumkit on some parts? If not it sounds amazing, what software did you use?

Hey, nice work on this! All steps forward and Home are my favourites. Home is indeed a bit "unsettling" but I like that in this style, really adds atmosphere for me. This ambient electronic style is really fascinating, I like the blippy drums, it's a really experimental sound. I've added you on Myspace too :)

Cheers for the comments guys, really appreciated! I love getting feedback from anyone, as i have no target audience for this. Comments have all sunk in :).

Robosapien - all programmed drums, using Addictive Drums by XLN Audio. Guitars are PodXT, and pretty much everything else is manually edited sounds or Reason. Sequenced in cubase SX 3 with a load of cool effects and plugins which helped the sound a lot :).

edit: also with the album cover, it's the best i could do with a bridge camera and the area around here :P. It's got sentimental meaning.

Hi there,

Really good tracks mate.

Just a bit of feedback: I might be wrong but it sounds as though you have not 'mastered' the final stereo out. I have Cubase too and I took the liberty (hope you don't mind) of spending the last 20 mins or so playing around with a couple mastering plug ins (well, 4 to be precise) on the stereo out channel (on your "All step's forward" track) and it sounds great. Mastering plug ins really give that "professional studio touch" to a song and help the sound dynamics come to life.

Good stuff ergonomics, you have an ear for making good music.

I played this the other day, can you upload your mastered versions? That would be cool to hear.

I have only done a quick master of the first song "All Steps Forward" and have not had time to really fine tune it.

With 'ergonomics' permission, I will have a go at the others and upload them.

Ideally, a mastered version should be played on as many different hi-fi's, car stereo's, MP3 players etc, as possible - so you are not relying on one set of monitors (or hi-fi speakers in my case, old trusted Mordaunt Shorts - I blew the tweeters on my monitors a while back) So there is the possibility that it might sound way out on a different system.

I hope you don't mind (ergonomics) me uploading this example of mastering.

This is fantastic mate, thanks for the free download :)

Glad to see there's another XLN user too! The finished versions sound good, will have a listen to tebanski's remastered version too now.

It definitely sounds more polished, and everything is clearer and far easier on the ear, but some of the 'oomph' is gone? But I guess that means it's more compatabile with a wider range of systems. Thanks for that, it was interesting to hear, I'm not an audiophile by any means but it seems I'm interested in this sort of thing.

Ergonomics, at 2:29 the guitar phrase repeats for the second time, but it sounds a little out initially - and it totally works, I LOVE it. Was that a happy accident or was it intentional? How did you achieve it? I can't work out what's going on,...

Excellent.

Fantastic work :) :)

It's very Mum/Explosions in the Sky

I'd buy it :)

Heheh i got a little confused then till i realised you said 'mum' as in the icelandic band with the accent over the 'u'?

Anyway yeah i agree seems to remind me a lot of the icelandic scene right now.
Im not kidding when i say if this was in shops i'd buy it.
