Hello,

I'm thinking of updating my second PC, how do the parts below look? I'll pop in my 4870 1GB when I upgrade (see what the 5*** has to offer), I’m going mATX as this may well end up in a new case as a HTPC (with enough power for moderate gaming).

You are probably better off going for a faster HDD though as the Caviar Green is more a storage drive than an OS drive. Caviar Black would be good, or Samsung F1 or Seagate 7200.12. F1 is a bit slower but cheaper than the Black. 7200.12 is I think still the only 7200RPM drive with 500GB platters so should be quick but haven;t heard anything reliable yet about performance.

Fair enough, on thi site its listed as standard
re the 200 Im sure its still good, just dont think too many ppl are impressed with its aesthetics
As Namak says might be worth getting an alternative drive for OS and apps, the green would be great for storage, maybe add a 320gb WD black for bot and keep green for storage?
 
thanks for the tips, you are both right, i'll be swapping the drive for a Samsung F1 from my main PC and using the green one as storage in my main PC.

the rest of the PC sounds OK though?

Not really looked at the case that much, but it seems to have caused quite a reaction on this forum, must admit I don’t spend any time looking at the case so I could live with the Spiderman look!

I'm now thinking of the parts below (and re-using a case etc). Any thoughts on the below, and it is a mATX isn’t it?

As stated the ‘green’ HD will be used as storage in a different PC, I’ll stick a Sam 1TB F1 in this PC
 
I'm going to buy the above on Tuesday, anyone want to put me off any parts? The ram is an unknown for example, is there better for the same(ish) money?
