Don't forget to check when your MOT is due , i had a look at mine yesterday and found is was I month over due lucky my brother work at renault he got it in the same day.
used to get a reminder in the post but have found out this only happens now if you register it and pay £1.50 then you will get a text

Just drive around with no MOT or insurance, it's much easier as you don't have to remember silly things like "renewals". Not to mention the fact it is much cheaper!

I've had my car nearly 9 years, I never forget when my MOT is due. I just know that September is a bad month for me lol.

I usually leave mine until the last day, the time I didn't (last month) I did it a month early and have lost out on a month:mad:

I think MOT's should be every 2 years personally.

You don't lose out on a month if you get it done early, The new one will run from the date the old one expires.

An MOT can be carried out at any time
If the vehicle is tested within the calendar month prior to when the MOT is due, the test certificate will run from the date of the test to one year after the expiry date of the current certificate. For example, if the current certificate was due to expire on 1 April 2007, and the vehicle was presented on or after 2 March 2007, the certificate would run from the test date until 1 April 2008.

The same rule would also apply when the vehicle is taken in within a calendar month of its first MOT. In this case, the vehicle owner would need to present their registration document.

If the vehicle is tested earlier than one month before its due date, the MOT will only run for twelve months.

Mine is 'due' when the dealer sends me a letter saying it's a few weeks away and I don't go to them I go to my local preferred garage :p

it's all done on computer now and when he printed mine it said it's due a year today, when infact it should be a year and a month. so looks like a software bug or something? May ring the MOT people up and complain.

Has to be within the period based from midnight of that night, so you can lose out on the month on that technicality whereas if you had the MOT done the other side of the day change you would get the month back.

Yeah because we want potentially dangerous cars on the roads. As for losing out on a month see below.

I nearly always do mine a month early as it just seems more convenient to get it out of the way.

Good idea, that way if it fails or you've not noticed you need a new tyre or something you are forced to either be without your car as it has no MOT or pay the ripoff desperation-forced prices of the MOT centre to get it sorted.

Far better than giving yourself a month to attend to anything that needs sorting!
