Check your tyre pressures

I've been a mechanic for 14/15 years now, and I can tell you that you are in the majority. Most tyres don't get checked from one service to the next.

I find that even after a service the tyre pressures aren’t set right. For example I set mine correctly yesterday and today it’s gone in for a service. When I get it back and after a couple of hours for the tyres to cool down I’m betting I’ll have to correct them again.
 
Well I got my car back two hours ago and just checked the tyre pressures, the fronts are meant to be 29 PSI and the rears 36 PSI which I’d set them to yesterday using my digital pressure gauge.

So I got a reading of 30.5 PSI on the front right, 37.5 PSI on the rear right, 30 PSI on the front left and 37 PSI on the rear left. So either they were overinflated or my pressure gauge is inaccurate.

I like using my pressure gauge because if it’s inaccurate it’s consistently inaccurate and even if it’s 1 to 1.5 PSI out that’s nothing really.

Unless they were exactly the same temperature as they were when you measured them yesterday then that could easily be down to them being slightly warmer.

Well I left it two hours after the car was driven back 8 miles at 30mph before I checked them which is the recommended amount of time to wait for them to cool down before checking.

You often find mechanics are a bit lazy with tyre pressures and don't pay much attention to how accurately done they are, or sometimes even as far as guessing the pressure. There's also those that chuck the tyre gauge on the floor all the time too so they end up out of calibration.
 
Well I went for a drive this morning and checked them again afterwards, having “corrected” them last night and the fronts were at 29 PSI according to my pressure gauge and the rears at 35.5 PSI.

All I did last night was release air to get them down to the correct pressures according to my pressure gauge which may or may not be precisely accurate.
 
Just got my car back after it was inspected at the dealers, checked the tyre pressures with my digital tyre pressure gauge and all Tyres were 1PSI above what I usually set them to according to the gauge. So I suspect it reads 1 PSI below the correct pressure.

Never had the TPMS warning light come on so will continue to set them according to the gauge. In the worse case scenario they’re 1 PSI below the actual value.
 
Check them semi regularly, and always after a service/tyre change because I don’t trust them to set it right. My fronts are meant to be 33, after getting new fronts out on they were set to 43! Not even close to correct.
 
When I had my own car I would check them every 4-8 weeks, they were on the hard side usually as wore out the middle first usually. (anything for a higher top speed and lower fuel consumption)

Since I have a more modern (company car) when the car whinges that one of the tyre pressure sensors has a problem...
My rear right seems to be deflating, albeit slowly, but it needs pumping every 4-8 weeks, probably a nail or screw or bolt in it, but it's almost worn as well so cba to get it fixed since I'll be replacing both rears within a few months anyhow.

every few weeks and always before a long journey. Had a leaky alloy at one point but got them powder coated as they were needing a bit of a refurb and that fixed that, was cheaper than a single new wheel as well.
 
I got a Ring pump thing for Christmas so I’m going to check mine regularly now rather than just when the warning buzzer tells me to.
 
Usually run them a bit lower 2bar versus 2.2 in extended icy/cold periods 3series,
pcl digital gauge has become unreliable & need to check its battery/clean it, so, using old style stick one atm
 
Well my 2019 digital pressure gauges battery gave up the ghost today, I had a brand new spare one bought in 2020 which I'd never used sat in a drawer.

At first I had trouble getting the new one turned on and when I did and checked my tyres it was reading 1 PSI over what I set them to two weeks ago.

That doesn't normally happen unless temperatures have increased which they haven't, so I've set them to what the new one says is right and have ordered a brand new one.

Probably wasn't the wisest decision ordering a spare one in 2020 to sit in a drawer for three years but I didn't know how long my original one would last.
