Cheerio 980Ti

I love my 980 Ti but it's not my GOAT. That'd be the 9700 PRO, 8800 GTX (didn't own either), HD4870 and 5850 (the latter two having insanely good price/performance for their eras). Weirdly enough my faulty-from-the-start-but-didn't-realise-for-years X1950 PRO lasted me the longest.

The Voodoo was before my time but I can only imagine the difference that would have made.

I love my 980 Ti it's a fantastic gpu, got 2 in sli sitting at 1450mhz so will do me in till volta comes out OR if the 1080 Ti comes out reasonably priced which I doubt it

What about the 7900GX2? twelve inches of throbbing green L.E.D-ness.
It still works but it sounds like two hairdryers strapped together and has some mediocre graphics properties.

loved my 7970 overclocked to 1200/1650 on reference cooler, but i took a hit when i sold it £450 - £100 and i didn't have it more than 2 years

Thats why i loved the 7950, so much better value. I bought my first one back in 2013 for £200 new, the 7970s were like £100+ ontop of that. So much bang for the buck, especially after they got the drivers sorted, i had a nice one too, i gamed at 1300/1900 but it would bench even higher.

My answer is always the same. So i'll quote it:

8800gtx. It just redefined single card performance, blisteringly fast at the time. Followed by the unlocked 128bit 9500non-pro and the unlocked x800gto2 for their sheer bang-for-buck.

you know what you could be right.people mocked the 970 its 2 years old and still plays everything at 1080 maxxed.so really its been a great card.

another year in one yet.so 3 years at max settings at 1080 is pretty good for a card people claim is gimped.

see if a 480 is doing that for 3 years ;)

Mine doesnt. my 970 is fast running out of grunt. Max settings...id love to see deus ex maxed out, or the division on your rig. Bit-tech said Deus ex destroyed the 970 at 1080p. In fact it doesnt hold 60fps with medium settings, let along high / very high or ultra.

The 9700pro was probably the most awe-inspiring card released compared to what was available at the time, quickly replaced by the 9800pro which was only slightly better. I still have my HIS card somewhere.

The 9800pro seemed to be around for such a long time and was such a brilliant card. I had a 9600pro which was still considered a good card

Deus Ex MD is a very unoptimized game for how it looks. I agree that ultra is a stretch too far for a 970 in some games but it's still coping fairly well imo considering its cost when released.

I mean, look at the top end of the spectrum in the article you linked too. There's no way a 1080 should barely maintain 60fps.

Don't fret, Gibbo will find a stash of them in a darkened corner of an obscure overseas warehouse!
fingers crossed I would like to get my hands on a 980ti to replace my 970

The 7950 was an amazing card for the money.
yip Ive still got one in use in the machine my son uses

Loved my 7950 Crossfire setup
mines used to benchmark great but I never found much of a difference in games using the crossfire coompared to the single card.
I think my CPU was the bottle neck at the time ( FX6350 ) sold my second card and bought the FX8350.

would like to get a shot of a 2nd card to compare it with the FX8350 then the i7 4770k

9700Pro
8800GT

My personal favourite for 'bang for buck' was X800GTO2, which unlocked to X850XT.

I also had a real soft spot for the Voodoo 5 5500. Loved that card.

The original Voodoo 1 (still have my Orchid Righteous 3D) was the biggest step forward in my PC gaming experience.
