Quick to the internet!

Say I was defrosting some chicken in the microwave, thought i had put it on super low but in actual fact was on high and the chicken has started to cook through- quite a lot... is it still safe to cook and eat? will it be disgusting?

Errr I wouldn't risk it mate! Part cooked chicken doesn't sound too good!

EDIT: If you try it let us know how it goes

as long as you actually finish cooking as normal it it will be fine, might be a little bit tough though o nthe microwaved parts.

My missus cooks whole chicken breasts in the microwave, she's crazy like that.

As long as you finish cooking it there shouldnt be a problem

Done it plenty of times and as others have mentioned as long as you finish cooking the chicken properly then you should be fine. Some parts of it will be tough though!

In the end i decided not to risk it, though it sounds as if i would have been alright. Oh well i guess i know now for future **** ups.

also i would have asked in la cuisine, but i didn't think this was really the type of question they'd appreciate.

Cheers for the help!

Never cook a chicken from frozen.

It'll be fine if you finish cooking it in some way that wont turn the rest of it to rubber and make it taste like crap :P

The 'never cook chicken from frozen' thing is just pandering to the lowest common denominator, to kill certain bacteria the internal temp of the meat needs to get to a level and stay there for a period of time. It's covering for people who think the chicken looks cooked from the outside while the inside is still basically frozen and has potentially dangerous bacteria inside. Cooking from frozen is fine, so long as you're not a dumbass about it.

Done it before myself and as long you actually finish off cooking it then it will be fine.

Occasionaly break the pre heat the oven rule too, I dont see the point with pizzas with no or pre cooked meat.

That's not to do with food hygiene. It's mainly for calculating cooking times (although some foods may spoil if cooked too slowly). Something cooking in an oven for half an hour from cold will have only had about half the cooking time of putting the food in the oven when preheated.
