Chiclet Keyboard

Keyboard keys should always be black imo. No-matter how clean you are the white keys will go a funny colour. Theres some Apple kits in Uni that have been sitting there for a few years and those keyboards are disgusting.

Basically it's a laptop style low-rise keyboard? If so there's LOTS of them around. They tend to be on the more cheap and cheerful parts sites tho. I've been swearing by them for a good 5/6 years now. Used to use a zippy one.

technically, it is, but most laptop style keyboards use awfully cheap and nasty key mechanisms. Cherry keyboards are some of the highest quality and most durable keyboards made today.

Fair enough, black it is. Any better prices found?

'fraid not :(
Cherry doesn't import many keyboards to the UK, especially not the Strait or the Infinity, so they're pretty pricey :(

The only thing that concerns me is the gloss black finish, wonder if light/glare is an issue?

i doubt it would be - my current logitech keyboard has quite a bit of shiny trim around the edges and i've never had an issue with glare, and my desk it right infront of a large window.

My Emperex 6310U just arrived. first impressions are actually very good considering the price. Doesnt feel cheap or flimsy and is nice having masses of desk space again.
Was a UK version that arrived too which is nice, was expecting a US which wouldnt have bothered me too much.
Touch typing on it really isnt a problem which is nice considering I came from a weird ergonomic keyboard.

Not sure my wrists will appreciate it though. Only thing I think it is really missing is a tilt adjustment. It does come with a fixed angle of about 7/8 degrees which feels ok for now.

Will try it out with some gaming after I hand in this damn coursework. Overall, impressed for £4.50.

Strictly speaking "chiclet" is just the USA name for a rubber membrane keyboard, known lovingly as the "Dead flesh keyboard" in the UK (as we dont have chiclet branded gum so the name means nothing here and true chiclet keyboard feel like dead flesh to type on)

The Sinclair Spectrum 48k used a dead flesh/chiclet keyboard.

Standard laptop keyboard just use regular low profile key mechanisms, but its true that those wireless apple keyboards are borderline "true" dead flesh keyboards :P
