Why is the dog grinning at me!! a simple border to just frame the image is best, and the composition doesnt work more of the dogs face in the shot and more focal points to remove the large soft spots. Also im sure this isnt your fault but where the shot is taken the back drop is a very similar colour to the dog so it all just blends away and emphasizes the lack of sharpness.

i was just snapping away taking pics of my mums beloved rodents, and it was one of my favourites to be honest, so i tryed to conjure up something from it!

yeh best way to learn is trial and error, and my critique is purely to try and help you not hinder. This is what i personally would be trying to produce more contrast and up the WB to remove that yellow cast and a very simple border that doesnt distract just frames, but that cant correct the fact that only have the image is in focas thats something for the next shot :D

Ok guys, Neoni came in here for C&C so lets not trash this thread with whitty or rude comments.

As has already been mentioned, the border isn't great. Im not too keen on the composition. If it was me I would have gone for a tighter crop, losing the blank bit at the top. The main problem for me though is the depth of field, which is either too shallow or too deep. At the moment it looks like the dof was accidental rather than intentionally shallow. In terms of post processing ichabod crane has done a decent job and has given the image much more 'punch'.

no need for the comments guys! jsut because he is trying to learn and improve doesnt mean you can trash his thread. I can surely bet that you dont produce fantastic shots for every press of the shutter!

lol @ some of the comments.. the poor guy was only asking how to improve!! :D

Neoni, in my opinion, with Animals the eyes, whiskers and expression all need to be pin sharp.
If I were you, i'd take another one in better light, maybe zoom out/step back a little bit and position the subject in the frame a little less central, OR as MK has said go for a far closer shot but either way those critical features need to be pin sharp, as there the cute main focal points, where everybody looks and goes "awwwwww"

I disagree with the 2nd ones post processing, you over done the levels (auto maybe), the contrast is too high, the highlights have blown and it now has a cold blue cast. Looks aweful.

It isnt the easiest thing to revive an image from a jpg, but it gives the gist of the processing id personally go for if i had the raw.
Maybe you would like to contribute rather than just throwing out critique for once.

Thanks for all the replies, the constructive ones that is! ill try another shot some time tomorrow and take into consideration all the tips and pointers, thank you, remember i'm still a noob!

The amount of times I have seen you speak down to people on here is becoming a joke ... you are no where near good enough to be so arrogant.

Fair point I was trying wit out in my second reply, but you could have worked out what to do from my first comment really.

So what if I think some of the photos on here aren't awesome. Regardless of how good my photos may not be, my comments are a million times more useful than 'great shot' and 'oh cool!'. If you only want to hear comments like that head over to deviantart and keep your eyes and ears shut.
