Children running out into the road..

It's a common problem, especially for bikers. When people don’t notice you and then suddenly have their attention focused on you, like slamming on your anchors, their brain tells them you must have been going really quickly as you weren’t there one second and you are now.

No point trying to convince them otherwise, it’s an unwinnable argument, despite you being right.

I have no sympathy for people who get injured/killed because of their own stupidity. Even children. Is that harsh?

I have sympathy, but if someone was to run out in front of me i'd feel no guilt if they ended up smeared on the tarmac, no matter what age.

There's too many people around with zero common sense to bother dwelling on it when they walk underneath your car.

People who walk out in front get the horn blared at them, if the window's down I also like to tell them to watch where they're going.

This reminds me of something when I was taking my lessons.

I was driving along at 30 when I saw a fat chav woman with a pink tracksuit standing in the middle of the road waiting for several kids to cross. I stopped at least 5 metres away from her when she came over to my window and started shouting abuse at me about how I was a ****** murderer and hopes I crash etc...

We both hurled a torrent of disgusting verbal abuse at her and drove off.

Some people are just idiots and don't deserve to be alive.

I find it a shame kids these days think it's okay to run onto the road, don't they teach at school to only cross after looking left, right, left ( or well, right left right in the UK's case:p) and only of nothing is coming ? iirc I wasn't even allowed to cross roads myself without holding my parents hands until I was 8 or 9 or so, and not allowed to go outside my living street. And my primary school was hammering traffic laws and safety every year into everyone ( since the age of 4 or 5). Had to take an exam about it when I was 9 on this test circuit for cyclists to get my traffic diplom.

Had it happen myself in the first week I had my car ( a kid running out, not mums moaning), was a one way very narrow street with parked cars, I only just saw a little girl disappear from the sidewalk between some parked cars, slowed down and as expected, she ran on to the street right in front of me, she looked like she was 5 or 6, I don't understand how parents don't teach their kids to at least look before crossing, let alone allow kids so young by themselves outside without supervision.

Similer thing happend to me about a month ago.
Luckily the Parent was more... how can i put it... considerate at the fact that it wasnt my fault, but hers.

If it had been any other driver, id of probably hit the kid... Luckily i live on the street, so i know the blackspots (i.e. key areas where i need to pay special attention)

GRR kids really are dumb with road safety these days. I was coming out of the garages going about 5mph and a kid comes flying round a blind corner on the entrance to garages on a bike from the hill nearby and would have been right into my front bumper full whack if I didnt swerve and scrape the wall.

Glad you managed to stop in time.
