Children's bikes

** Bumping my older thread **

So my son is out growing his 16" Hoy Bonaly now (6.5 years old) and I was looking around for a replacement 20" inch bike for him.
I saw Canyon were selling some awesome children's bikes and had decided to get him one next month. Today Canyon send me an e-mail with £170 off so I snapped it up today.

Canyon Offspring 20” in Factory Enduro Team Colours : £429. Full spec here : https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/kids/offspring-al-20.html

They even have a matching children's size top for it too

Bit late now, but it might be an interest to others.

Hope run a programme for kids, you pay x per month and they change the bike with your kids sizing as he grows. Proper bikes too, not cheap tat.

I looked into that but it’s just too expensive @ £30 a month to rent a bike.
Even if the Canyon I bought above was full price (£600), two year owner ship would be £570 cheaper than renting a hope bike, after it had been sold. Also currently the 20 and 24 bikes are all, booked out.

Never realised it was that expensive!

That Canyon looks sweet! Pretty cool design for a kids bike too!

Hi all. My lad is 7 in April. Never had a bike, only a 3 wheel scooter.

Any tips, recommended bike etc?

I never had stabilisers... Just had to learn quick with sore elbows along the way.

So time roles on - hard to believe it's 4 years since my first post
Anyway, my son has now grown out of the Canyon 20 and it's being replaced by this :

Orange Zest 24
65mm Spinner Grind Air 24" fork
Hyro disc brakes
11 speed SRAM NX gears and drive train

Should be awesome for the trails he is riding now.

Looks nice, the forks are interesting, not heard of them, are they set up for small people? I guess the problem with more adult forks is they might not respond much with a child's weight

The fork comes fitted to several 20" and 24" wheel bikes, including the Canyon 24 AL. It's designed to work with lighter weight and it seems to be working well.

So two years on from getting my son the Orange Zest 24 he’s out growing it now. We have had some amazing rides on it, mostly at Cannock Chase but also a few trips to Coed y Brenin, Wales.

I had a look around for a replacement - Whyte and Marin do some good hard tail child sized bikes but kept coming back to Canyon. So, I’ve just ordered this : Neuron Young Hero, in size 2XS, arriving in May.

Spec is
  • 27.5″ wheels
  • 130mm travel forks to match the 130mm rear wheel travel
  • SRAM SX Eagle 1×12 drivetrain with 30t chainrings and 11-50 cassette
  • 155mm cranks
