Do not wanna spend a fortune on hardware i don't need its not going to be my gaming machine.

Right now it will be mainly streaming 1080p and some movies i have on my server.

In a few months playing back some 4k media also hence the skylake?

The gear i have is loud and big all from gaming rigs, the machine i would like to build ideally would be small and quiet, So i would have to buy some parts regardless of using some older gear

I use Amazon Fire Stick for Kodi now and Apple TV for streaming movies.

I use a fire stick for Kodi and streaming from my Synology running Plex. Works absolutely fine at 1080p! Why bother with a new build when it's not really needed?

Don't use that PSU. For anything like HTPC you need a really quite, ideally silent PSU.

Yep same here, raspberry pi is perfect for the job. Works with HDMI CEC as well which is great.

Kodi is meant to be for playing back your own media, not watching pirated streams.

There is plenty of legitimate streaming content on kodi. Just not much of it 4k. For that I use the Netflix and YouTube apps on the tv.
