Hey folks, so the missus decided to put some home made chilli con carne that she had taken out of the freezer the previous day in the slow cooker yesterday, at about 5pm... It got to about midnight before deciding we couldn't take it out and put it in the fridge as it was still warm, so instead stuck it on 'warming' for the rest of the night.

This morning I put it in one of those plastic tub things and have left it out at work (not in the fridge) as will give it a blast in the microwave at lunch time, but now thinking I should have put it in the fridge in the interim? Apart from nuking from orbit or feeding it to my 7 wives, should it have gone in the fridge?

Unless its defrosted at work and has been sitting in the warm for hours and hours, its not a problem that it wasn't in the fridge. If its frozen and you put it in the fridge it'll take much longer to defrost. Food will only start to go off when it gets warm, if its let on the side to defrost, it'll be fine.

I'll eat almost anything, but slow cooked mince from frozen????

tbh I'd still eat it after a quick sniff, but man what were you thinking?

Oh no sorry I didn't mean she had put the chilli in the slow cooker when frozen, it would have been defrosted first and then put in the slow cooker, cooked, then left overnight on 'warming' and then this morning I put it into a plastic tub and it's been on the table at work, I meant I hadn't refrigerated it at work, as i'll be heating it up in the microwave later on.

I don't understand the point of re-heating it in the slow cooker overnight?!

You cooked it once - froze it - defrosted it - then re-heated it in the slow cooker - then took it to work - then re-re-heated it in the microwave?

Surely it would have made more sense to:

Cook it once - freeze it - defrost it and keep in fridge, then re-heat in the microwave as required?

Microwaves are perfect for re-heating things - why use a slow cooker to do that bit?

It's true, I shall have stern words with the other half about it, have no idea why she was starting to cook it at 5pm when it wasn't for the dinner that evening...

because it tastes better once ages, and there's nothing wrong or dodgy with it. ignore the official advice, which get scared when the chances hit 0.000000000000001%
