(Too many exclamation points?)

Good hello.

I would like one of these garden lovelies but am having trouble deciding which one. I've cruised the garden centres but they don't seem to be very good quality there - or at least not quite as nice as you can buy online for the same money.

My budget is about £75-100. I want a cast iron one, not clay. I'm thinking about this kind of chap.

So, who here has one? Many of them say you can cook on them, but how practical are they for cooking in reality?

Anything I should look out for?

I got one the other day from tesco's. Clay, £15. It is fine (so far) only used it once. Seems ok. Not super tall.

I know you do not want clay, but just thought I would reply. I too would like a cast iron one, there nice, but cost quite a bit.

Maybe check out flea bay or exclamation yards.

Damn....I though it was just about poorly spelled Chimera's.......I was just about to go on a long meandering post about Human-Animal hybrids when I find out it is about garden heaters.....:(

I think the cast iron ones are the way to go, they give off more heat and they don't crack like the clay ones have a tendency to do.

That one you linked to looks smart.

I went to a friendS a few weeks ago, they bought one from a house clearance, was massive and I really wanted one after sitting round it poking the logs for hours that night, kept us well warm drinking round it.

Week later the gf spotted on in homebase and treated me to it, nice iron one, £80, not as big as the one my mate owns but does the job. Been lighting it for a few nights burning rubbish, giving it a proper go tonight as I bought some logs and have friends round so shouldn't be as smokey.

That looks great. Just the kind I want, really. Is the one pictured above the Homebase unit or is it your mate's one?

Hmm, something not quite right about this one...

...at least the delivery charge for a 21cm high product is reasonable.

Pretty much Identical to the one we got for the missus' dad.
Think it was around £60 from Tesco.
They seem to be having a clearance at the moment so I would check your local :)

Good call on Tesco's - I didn't know they sold 'em. I might pop down there tomorrow. Thanks!

considering amazon spelt it right and you linked it, i am confused how you didn't

Either spelling is fine. For someone who doesn't use full points or capitalisation you're a feisty little freckle. :p

It's mine from homebase, those logs I bought burnt great lastnight, ketp us warm for hours and not too much smoke. :D

Good tip with chimeneas is if you are having a BBQ with a proper BBQ put the hot coals in the chimenea after cooking

Have you had a look in B&Q? there were a couple on sale the other day when i popped in. I bought a cast iron one (looks a bit like a rocket!) last year and it throws out a decsent amount of heat, just don't leave them out in the rain otherwise they will rust. I have a cover for mine.

Also, have you looked at firepits?
