chineese lanterns

wouldn't be so bad if the whole damn thing caught fire and burnt out (ie no wire, bambo maybe?) before heading down but the wire causes HELL with cattle/etc.
having said that they are pretty!

what im asking tho is, there is no law to say your not allowed to release them in

Is there a law saying I'm not allowed to come round to your house and chuck some rubbish into your back garden?

If you've got permission from some farmer to use his fields and set these things off and you're going to pick them up afterward then go for it. Otherwise tell your mate he's a muppet and leave them at home.

Also all the ones I've ever seen just keep getting higher and higher until they run out of Oxygen. So it would be interesting to hear how many fires they have actually caused if people reckon that's the case.

To be honest I think fires are the least of their problems. They create litter that someone else has to clear up. The ones with metal are just plain dangerous. Buy ones that have some chance of degrading...

Majority of the ones run out because of their fuel running out - not because of a lack of oxygen

Why don't manufacturers just use stiff cardboard straws instead of Bamboo and wire? Same job, similar weight but far more biodegradable and cattle safe.

Make sure to let the local goons know to take some crappy pictures with their crappy cameras before sending the crappy images on to majick so he can then post here with more 'proof'.

i cant call him a muppet ! how about a silly billy ???

Ask anyone who lives in the country and they will tell you they hate them with a passion - cause all sorts of issues when they come back to earth.

got an example of any of those issues ?

edit- oh the wire. silly cows! not everyone in the country are farmers though

+1

Sunday morning, I looked out in the garden, only to see a chinese lantern on my patio. As it had been raining all night, it had made a soggy mess and stained my patio

erm.... most land that these things land in are owned by farmers. And yes, they do cause issues with livestock. They also pose a big fire risk to straw stacks / barns etc.

Just dont bother, cant you burn something less harmful to farmland? I'll give you a box of matches to play with, that should satisfy your fire crave. Or you could always satisfy the 'burning' itch with a maginify glass and an ants nest or some other creature. I always found that fun when i was 5 or so. If this doesnt work then try spraying deodorant over a burning match, "oooohh......aaaaaaaahhhh".

yes there is a law saying you cant go round to someone's house and throw rubbish in there garden muppet!!!

as for asking a farmer for permission to launch them from his field! why do you need to do that as its not going to land in his field?
It strikes me this is no different to letting go of a helium filled balloon. dont tell me.... if you let go of a balloon you should follow it to where ever it goes then pick it up so a cow doesnt eat it! ha lol !!!! you are silly!:D

i see you are clearly not one for over exaggerating "Farmers up and down the land are losing cattle to these things " ROFL!

NEWS FLASH!!!

CHINESE LANTERNS ARE ATTACKING CATTLE ALL OVER THE WORLD ......
ITS NOT CLEAR WHY BUT ONE THEORY IS THE LANTERNS ARE FIGHTING BACK AT THE COWS SO THAT MORE TREES CAN BE GROWN ON FARMLAND TO MAKE MORE LANTERNS!!!!
