Chinese Grand Prix 2015, Shanghai - Race 3/19

Yes, EVH was saying they used a hell of a lot out of the Q2 tires, but on another set of fresh tires Hamilton took another, what 6/10ths or something, so they left a fair amount in the previous set is what I was saying.

Ah right

Horrible last lap for Raikkonen.

Scruffy lap, vettel has looked calm in the car all weekend. Raikkonen has pace but he just looks like he's pushing more than he needs to.

Dang closer than I thought with Rosberg, not a good final lap, see if we get a replay to show what the issue was.

Vettel seemingly where he's been over fp2/3, a second behind Hamilton on the softs and mediums, in qualifying and long runs. Merc's have a second a lap over Ferrari here.

Rosberg... doesn't do it on a faster track and seemingly has a go at his team.

EDIT:- F1 website data so stupid, says that Massa/Bottas used 4 sets of new softs in qualifying, I presume in reality the first run in Q3 was used softs but they've got them listed as new. Got a couple drivers listed down as using a used set of mediums in Q1 as well... only used, no new set of mediums at all... sure.

EDIT:- Brundle "Rosberg with a 41.9 in S3, comfortably faster than anyone else"..... Hamilton S3 time.... 41.9, plonker.

As it does Ricciardo, Grosjean, Nasr and Ericsson. I'm using the app though rather than the site.

It is possible to use 4 sets of new soft tyres in qualifying.

You enter Q1 with 3 sets of prime and 4 sets of option tyres remaining of the initial allocation.

You start Saturday with 4 prime and 5 option. 1 set of each is given back after P3, and another option used only in Q3 and given back after.

So the data on the F1 site is correct. Arm chair novelist drunkenmaster at it again.

drunkenmaster do you know how many sets of softs & mediums were used by the Mercs and how many new sets they have left in comparison to the Red cars?

I forgot they got an extra set after Q3, however the data wasn't accurate, it still said that several drivers started Q1 on used mediums... which wasn't possible.

Happened to come back and post at exactly the same time as you.

Mercs/Ferrari's ended up having the same amount of tires for the race and basically same usage.

Hamilton/Rosberg Q1 medium, q2 soft, q3 soft/soft.
Vettel/Kimi Q1 medium/soft, Q2 soft, Q2 used soft, soft.

By not running softs in Q1 they did both runs in Q3 on fresh softs but, meh. I would presume the used Q3 tires would be the Q1 tires. So both teams have 3 laps on the softs they used in Q2 and a completely fresh set for the race.

From the tire life of longer 16lap + stints on softs of those two teams, both look easily capable of 2 stopping using two sets of softs, one medium.

You know he's got the data to three decimal places, yeah? 41.907 and 41.993 are both 41.9 times.

He said "comfortably faster" and didn't use a more accurate time. If someone told me 41.9 was comfortably faster than anyone else, I wouldn't expect anyone else on a 41.9 at all, you'd expect at least a 42.0 if not more. There is nothing comfortable in less than 100th.

You can just about get away with 1/10th away being described as comfortable. He almost certainly was looking at Hamilton's S3 time from his last lap, not the fastest lap and effectively stated no one came close to matching Rosberg in the final sector, he was wrong. I've never heard anyone else talk about frankly anything less than a few tenths as comfortable in motorsport, because it's absurd.

So Red Bull can't go fast because the engine is crap. But that's ok, because if they did go fast, they wouldn't be able to stop because their brakes are crap.

:D
