Chinese nanny state restricts online game time

How long before this kind of totalitarianism is imported to the west under the guise of mental health or some other virtuous sounding marketing slogan.

Probably never, but don't let that stop you from foaming at the mouth. No doubt that will be your one and only contribution to the thread; I know this will be mine.

Its nothing to do with gaming, its about controlling a communication channel that their censors currently can't police.

In the west, zero chance. Its the parents job.

Didn't they already put some kind of restrictions on it in China, years ago?

These sorts of things are slowly creeping in to Europe though. Years ago we never bothered blocking websites, now loads are censored. ISPs didn't really log activity that extensively but now the government forces them to.

Plus we have the corporate side of it. Record labels being allowed to bully people and try to claim content which isn't theirs. Patent trolls all over the place. Banks and governments going crazy over crypto because they can't take their cut from it...

except if you read the article it's not compulsory, it's just allowing antivaxxer kids who've somehow avoided being infected with stupid to make their own choice.

It's esentialy the exact opposite of the situation in China children being franted free choice

It's probably a good idea.

Asia has a different culture to the West for gaming. The addicted ones literally spend all their lives at the computer, even renting computers in gaming shops. They play so much they fall asleep, eat, and are reluctant to go to the toilet because it means stepping away from the computer.

The article says this is more to do with online games rather than offline games.

Minors in China can only play online games between 8-9pm on Friday, weekends and holidays.

It was like that here for a while, but people seem to be moving away from all day/night gaming sessions. I see more kids outside than I did in the 00s.
