Chinese nanny state restricts online game time

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-of-time-minors-can-spend-playing-video-games

Minors in China can only play online games between 8-9pm on Friday, weekends and holidays.

How long before this kind of totalitarianism is imported to the west under the guise of mental health or some other virtuous sounding marketing slogan?

I already control my daughter's gaming time on Xbox. It is the right thing in my opinion to do. I have seen first hand how online gaming addiction can ruin people's lives. When Wow classic was released I got on discord with all my old guild who some I haven't spoken to for 15 years. Some of them had completely ruined their lives.

I loved Wow more than anything but there comes a time when enough is enough.

Its nothing to do with gaming, its about controlling a communication channel that their censors currently can't police.

In the west, zero chance. Its the parents job.
werent they restricting gaming since over a decade? they had a bunch of people die inside internet cafes, literally they gamed to death.

the mmos need social security ID too?

I remember from my wow days that couples left their children to starve to death because they were that addicted.

Wait, you think making vaccinations compulsory is the same as telling kids they can't play video games?

Who said anything about compulsory? Its about giving kids the choice to prove they're not as moronic as their facebook addicted parents are, nothing compulsory about it

Also this.

and hence zero restrictions.. lots of "absent" parents in this country ;)

Kind of got to be a bit cynical about a country banning it. Like why they banning it? So they can get good little workers ready? But if it's for health, and mental health then that's better. WoW was terrible, I've been there, you kind of put off priorities. Like washing up, nahhhh, another hour of WoW, it's more exciting. When really that hour would be doing something mundane like travelling, or killing 18 wolves.

It’s a good thing in my eyes. Many parents worldwide are not doing a good enough job.
Gaming addiction in kids is real. Pretty sure a large number of kids in the UK would benefit from some time restrictions on Fortnite…
