Chinese Takeaways

Can you add it to all food? I mean, does it make any difference stirred into things like beans, scrambled eggs, chilli, bolognese etc
Yes you can use it anywhere. You probably already do without realising it. It's in stock cubes, gravy granules, and all sorts of seasoning blends.

Cant be bothered reading whole thread so apologies if its been said. (Yep, i`m lazy)
However check out Chin and Choo Zianags youtube channel.
and enter the wonders of how to make your own chinese takeaway food at home. Oh you wanted to not spend so much money on Chinese takeaways..........................................

Oooh, edit. I cant see its actually been mentioned, so I will ask @seabiscuit to tell you the wonders. :D

My parents retired and closed their shop last year....off my head, the prices were roughly....

Egg Fried Rice £3.20
Beef Chow Mein £6.50
Prawn balls £7
Customary free bag of Prawn Crackers (sold £2 separately)

You are not far off the £19. Part of the reason is the gas prices have shot up since the war started. Since takeaway uses gas (no other way to get the same heat), and in one those big burners not like your stove top at home. It gets expensive fast cooking even 1 dish, and the gas stays on all day, even during the day and between service on low (trickle mode). They use it more than just cooking when you order, some dishes needs prep during the day.

Raw materials have just gone up a lot, meat prices like beef have gone up. I used to be able to get a packet of mince in Sainsbury's for £1.59 for the 20% fat to make my burgers, the same packet is now £2.49. That's 90p more, like 50% extra now for the meat. This applies too for all the ingredients, minimum wage have gone up etc.

edit - If I were to get an order like the above...it's enough food to share between 2 people as 1 portion of the chow mein is more than enough for me in a meal. So throw in rice, chicken or prawn balls, that is enough food for 2.
I do have a Chinese near me that uses an induction wok system. No gas supply to their unit. Their food isn’t bad at all.

That's the youtube channel I had in mind when I mentioned them did a review of the various chinese curry powders. It is a really fun combination they have. It's a shame my naff electric hob has no chance at getting anything hot enough to make anything that needs a wok.

I usually have char sui fried rice, a version where there are big slices of pork over the top of the rice rather than little bits chopped into it.

Yea char sui pork is my favourite from a Chinese takeaway.

When we were young there was a Chinese that did char sui pork with a really thick dark Chinese BBQ sauce, beansprouts and rice, was gorgeous.

I should learn how to make it at home.

Picked up Fish and Chips for three this week, £38.00. Three Cod and Chips and sauces (not large). Always support local businesses, crikey Fish and Chips is pricey.

Like all takeaways now, if you get a scrimped/duff meal, when it was cheaper, you'd pass it off; nowadays it's rage inducing!

Chinese back in the day, typical order, Hot and Sour Soup, Duck, Main, Rice. To buy now costs a small fortune. I still love a good Chinese takeout (or restaurant), but it's a treat. Takeaway wise, usually opt for something else.

The best value is the per-person menus, but not always what you fancy.

We make a lot of our own Chinese takeaway styler meals now - Ziangs Food Workshop on Youtube is what we use - they really know how to make quick fast food Chinese food (as they should as owners of a Chinese takeaway).

Anyone thinking of getting MSG and doesn't want to buy a 1kg bag of it, if you have a local Asian food shop nearby, you can get a 100g bag for about £1.

I tend to use it when i cook Chinese or Indian dishes and it also works well in Chillies and even Ragu's

Yep....
Coming back to London this week it has always been traditional for me to have at least 1 Indian and 1 succulent Chinese meal.

This time around the price of the Chinese was so high I said no to it. Approx double what we paid last trip here. My arteries will thank me later after the gee has flushed out.
(Hopefully)

You don’t tend to find ghee in a succulent Chinese meal but it will be present in the Indian meal you no doubt enjoyed;)
