Do any chip shops still use beef dripping to cook the chips in anymore?

Had a chip butty (roll and chips) for dinner tonight, was terrible. These vege oil chips taste of nothing. I'd be better eating cardboard.

What about in central Scotland anyone know a place that does real chips. I'm willing to travel..

I'm sure the chippy near me uses motor oil, and they cut the kebab meat with a butter knife.
Awful awful awful stuff, I buy some chips from them every now and then to see if they have improved, every time I vow to never buy from there again.

I've seen another chippy which claims to be veggie friendly quick fry their burgers in the chip fat before finishing them off on the burger grill. :o

Anyone from Oxford will tell you of the legendary Posh Fish.

Now that is THE fish and chip shop. Try and eat a large, I dare you!

Use ground nut oil instead and to fry them in that. Its what the chippy shops use to fry I believe, but even when this is used at the home the taste still isn't totally like chip shop chips. Helps to use clean fresh oil, and after cutting the chips leave them to air and dry off for 30mins or so. Potatoes are very hit and miss, if you see them turning brown quickly then your on a downer!

Yeah I've noticed it recently that the good old chippie has gone downhill. You used to be able to get a really decent bag of chips, but now they taste watery and bland..!!

Without the sauces as mentioned, they are just not worth having. The local chippie to me is a Chinese takaway as well, and their chips are 'alright' but not like I used to remember them..

Trinity chip shop on Trinity street in Huddersfield is the best chippy :D

Chip Shop chips are nice when they cook them properly, 99% of the time theyre way too pasty :/

I think you're better off asking for chips well done :/

Depends on what's in season remember - with clean oil and New spuds you will never get brown chips, even if you left them in for an hour ;)

Cheers.

Went to callendar earlier and had an excellent fish supper. Can't remember the name either, but they used beef dripping. '<Something> Fry' i think.

Where about is this, they chippy in mid calder is amazing. Mostly for the kebabs the chips are veggie oil and lack the good old flavour.

There are no decent chippies in Scotland :p

I remember when I went to Biggar a lot that there was a chippy there which had all sorts of awards up on the walls, can't remember the name though.

Begbie, what's the name of the place in mid-calder?

There's a place in Sheffield which uses diesel - with surprisingly good results!

The missus and I had some chips there last year. Not too shabby. :)
