Chip shops chippies

Cheers.

Went to callendar earlier and had an excellent fish supper. Can't remember the name either, but they used beef dripping. '<Something> Fry' i think.

That brought back memories of parental holidays, I can remember some very crispy fish from Callendar. Another place that I remember is on the front at Hellensborough but, that was over 25 years ago:eek: . Also I can remember a place in Oban

The magnet in Bristol! chips that taste like they did when i was 5. Its won awards and all sorts. Bit far for you to travel though.....:D

You just have to go to the seaside for the best fish and chips. Even the chips are ten times as good at the seaside.

There's a nice chippie on the harbour in Bridlington that's rather nice! Though they leave the skin on the fish which should only happen in Hull as people there are strange like that! ;)

Duno why but its impossible to find a chippy that doesnt use them cartons to put the chips in. Back when i was a kid they just shoveled about 2 or 3 large shovel fulls of chips on greeseproof paper and wraped it up and was only 90p or somit i miss those days. :(

Bit out of your way, but Dart Farm (south of Exeter) have a fish-mongers who also do chips and the like. Easily worth the 30min drive from mine. Fish are brought across from exmouth docks that morning, and the chips are like nothing else I've ever eaten.

Most chip shops use Ultra Long Life Vegetable for deep frying as its cheep and as the name states last a very long time. It's horrendously bad for you, and looks like wallpaper paste before it heated. I’d imagine reverts back to looking like that as its cools and solidifies in you veins and arteries.

I remember when I went to Biggar a lot that there was a chippy there which had all sorts of awards up on the walls, can't remember the name though.

Begbie, what's the name of the place in mid-calder?

Erm can't remeber the name of it, will drive past it tonight and check. Must be a good few chippys in edinburgh?

All our shops cook in beef dripping,

Kristians - North Shields
Bimbis - Durham
Hollowgate Fisheries - Holmfirth

The Magpie Cafe is the daddy for fish & chips, though I understand the take-out doesn't use beef dripping for cooking (which the restaurant does).

There's usually a queue out the front door - it's handy when some of your girlfriends family live in Whitby and know the owners :D
