Been in 2 minds about this as i dont really see the benefits in it apart from reducing the temp in the case by a little maybe?

So is cooling the chipset really worth the hassel of losing your warranty and spending the additional cash?

YES, if the chipset gets to hot your system could become unstable if you are overclocking if you are not then dont bother

what are your system specs

- AMD Opteron UP 165 Dual Core San Diego 1.8GHz 2MB Cache
- G.Skill 2GB DDR HS PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2.5 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200USU2-2GBHS) (MY-007-GS)
- DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D
- Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply

I found the chipset going up as far as 63oC, which must be in turn heating everything around it

nout wrong with that m8 thats around the temp they run, the DFI stock chipset cooler will be more than enough i think the zalman will be a bit better if any atall when i fiited one to an a8n sli deluxe the chipset was so hot u couldnt touch it so i had to put two akasa 40mm fans on it in a push pull config to keep it cool and it worked amazingly well

you can crack a fan on the side of them ?? i have a 40 mil fan sitting round doing sod all atm, tempted as i know the stock fans are crap from asus but i cant be bothered to take my system appart to get at the back of the board

hehe well i figured i may aswell do these things while i have my mod hat on ^^
Am gona drill a few holes into my Motherboard side panel to fit a 120mm fan over the top of my gfx card/heatsink, havent decided yet.
I have a bit of a problem getting air out of my case atm as i dont really want to be running hot air over my hard drives, but there and just below are the only places i can realisticly put a fan.

I'll post a pic soon as i work out how to put these pics from my phone to the computer :P

I dont think i have the clearence for something that big on my board, the gx card is quite literally touching the chipset fan as it is :<

What motherboards you guys stuck the modded zalmans on?

i just cut the push pins with a pair of plyers and the stock asus fan lifted right of then i clicked in the new modified zalman cooler was easy no messing around taking mobo out just cut the stock fan off

Defo for Nforce, get pretty hot (mate got Gigabyte MATX Nforce 4) heastink is REALLY hot and it needs some airflow. A low rotation case fan blowing onto the chipset/videocard area will help.

Replacing the chipset cooler on DFI boards doesn't invalidate the warranty according to DFI themselves, so thats a bonus.

I use a large zalman passive sink on my Ultra-D, works a real treat.

Even if it does invalidate the warrenty, if it breaks do what I done, just remove the cooler and put some crappy white (same as stock) colour thermal paste and whack the old cooler on.
I got my RMA back :D

any chance you could post a pic mate? :)

I've noticed that my X1900XT goes right over the top of the northbridge, and also blocks out a SATA port. I am using the top PCI-eXpress 16x slot, can I use the bottom one without penalty?
