Are chipset drivers something that needs to be updated every time a new operating system is installed onto the computers HDD?

I ask this because i have got a Clevo laptop, ive got the original drivers disk it came with but this model has not been 'certified' to work with Win7. The bios is up to date (last update was when Vista was released). Im not sure if Clevo will bring out new bios updates, they do not answer emails.

The Clevo download site does not have any drivers for Win7 for my model (yet/maybe never) - does Win7 update the chipset drivers? Or do i just get the latest ones on the Clevo download site?

EDIT : What are chipset drivers? Ive always kept my other computers up to date, but never knew what they did.

Thanks i did that. The latest drivers are for Vista but they seem to work ok.

So when i go into the Device manager what things on that list are under Chipsets?

I downloaded v9.1.1.1025 drivers but when i check the drivers for chipsets in the device manager (under system devices) its only at 9.1.0.1003.

Any ideas?

NM, it seems they only update as far as they need to go. Funny the auto updater didnt do anything, i had to manually select the folder.
