I've been looking online and cant find any definative answer :o :(

Can someone explain what the difference is between the chipsets i.e. the Intel 1155 P67 and the Intel 1155 Z68?

Am i correct in thinking that the chipset is referring to the motherboard and any 1155 processor will work?

In the past motherboards used to have to have two chips on them, the main northbridge (known as chipset) which worked in tandem with the CPU and southbridge which handled SATA/USB etc.

Today though, most of the northbridge functions have been moved onto the CPU's making the northbridge extinct, so the chipset refers more to the motherboard and it's features as a whole.

H67, P67 & Z68 are all socket 1155 motherboards so any socket 1155 CPU will work with them. The main thing to look for with motherboards is socket type, followed by chipset type (features).
