Chiropractors calling themselves 'Dr'

Seriously? Where?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic_education

Chiropractic--Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C. or B.Chiro or M.Chiro), a curriculum divided into "straight" or "progressive" chiropractic depending upon the philosophy of the institution, generally requiring 4 academic years of full-time study after 2-4 years or more of study at the associate or bachelor's degree level.

while not a phd (neither is a medical degree though) it seems to allow them the title Dr.

Never heard of tree doctors? Do you think they go to medical school? :p

*edit*

For what it's worth, if you wanted to raise a fuss you could point the chiropractor to his own professional body's guidance:

Somewhat ironically though it's illegal to call yourself a chiropractor if you are unregistered yet you can call yourself a doctor without being on the medical register - go figure on that one :p

This has been a bug bear of mine for a long time. They shouldn't technically call themselves doctors, but they do, and they like to lawd it over everyone else at the same time. Fact of the matter is, anyone can be a Dr. You can actually buy the title if you so wish

I'm confused what makes you think chiropractors are a bunch of "quacks"?
Perhaps because they are? Any GP that recommended I visit a chiropractor (or acupuncturist, amongst other "alternative" treatments) wouldn't be my GP for long.

A lot of GP's now recomend them, it's no different to physiotherapy for some injuries..
In which case go see a physio who wasn't trained to believe that all disease is a result of vertebral subluxations.

Do people learn nothing from such shows as 2.5 men? (Other than what happens when you take too many drugs :p)

It's not really something that bothers me that much. Would you call a Dentist 'Dr'?

I'm not sure tbh....

I'd have assumed (though perhaps I'm wrong) that the only Dentists styling themselves 'Dr' would have an actual doctorate - unless they're also following the practice of medical physicians who refer to themselves as 'Dr' regardless of whether they posses a PhD or MD.

Still a dentist without a doctorate referring to him/herself as 'Dr' would certainly bother me less than a Chiropractor?

A mate of mine is a physio - should he call himself 'Dr'?

Another friend of mine has done a 6 week personal trainer course - should she call herself 'Dr' - I mean she probably learned a bit about 'nutrition' etc..
