Can anyone help me recover deleted files by chkdisk? My PC was running and I switched my 3tb music hard drive to 1.5tb gaming by changing the sata/power cable. This usually works but the hard drive name was the same with the same files, just said corrupt.

It was like the previous 3tb drive was still plugged in, rebooted and chkdsk basically deleted all the music files from the 3tb that wasn't suppose to be on the gaming 1.5 drive :(

You shouldn't hot swap your drives like that unless they're in an enclosure that supports it. Wreckless move.

Do you have a backup of these files..?

Obviously he wouldn't need to be recovering them if he had a back up....

never had a problem hot swapping sata drives myself...just uninstall in device manager first though.

Files will all still be there and recuva will find them.

Good paid for ones are "power data recovery" and "get data back"

Thanks for the links, I used to hotswap all the time but never again haha. Recuva found a lot of files but all the filenames are jibberish now :( Is there anyway to reverse a chkdsk?

Unfortunately you might be out of luck as chkdsk does a lot of writing/changing.

Try getdataback for ntfs or a deep scan with Recuva. It'll take an age but might be worth it.

Also DO NOT install or copy anything to the drive.

Getdataback is good as already said....recovers whole folder structure rather than just the actual files.

Last 1Tb drive i did with it too well over 12 hrs to c iirc but obviously worth it.
