Choice of uni pros and cons

They have also built loads of new building and its generally seems like everything is built around the uni as theres so much of it

Computer Games Development isn't necessarily a bad choice so I wouldn't rule it out for the other universities either but how worthwhile it is depends very much on both the merits of the course (i.e. what their focus is - you should be looking at lots of hardcore maths and programming) and the reputation that it holds within the games industry itself.

The best thing you can do is to actually go to the university for a tour and see how you like it there, does the city appeal, what are the facilities like etc. I think most will organise a tour outside of scheduled open days if you give them a bit of notice. :)

Go to Bristol out of the two, its a wonderful city :)

Even if you are UWE scum ;)

Come down Bristol meet me and Zefan we'll give you the guided tour :p .

I came to Bristol because i liked the course, having home just 40 mins down the road (Swindon) is handy but thats it. I don't go home every weekend but it is handy if i get a delivery or something back home its not hard to get.

UWE is a great place to come for socialising, being in the city centre is awesome the nightlife is good and theres plenty to do.

As for having your car, think hard about that one.
This was one of my requirements when chosing uni's, but it went to pot as 90% of them don't have the facilities for it. Where i am in the city centre, there is no parking (other than pay & display) and i don't fancy leaving it parked there in the dead of night anyway! I would say for the first year it's really not needed (in a place like bristol). I will have my car next year but thats because I'll need it living out of the centre

If you do come here, live in the city centre in Marketplace/Favell House/The Rackhay as im pretty sure these are getting properly done up over summer and will be sweet.

PLEASE feel free to add me to msn ( in trust) and chat about UWE, i've been here since september and can tell you a lot of stuff you need to know!

I attend UWE. My being there has in my opinion and experience resulted in closed doors as far as job opportunities go. Perhaps this is the same with many other polytechnics, but especially so for ones located in cities where there is a competing red brick uni.

I would go as far as saying its unjustified and unfair to some extent. But there is a basis for employers to be suspecious. Get into the best Uni you can and if your life plans permit it, resit your AS's & A'levels (or whatever they call them now if its changed), get the best you can and get into as good a University as you can. It will really open more doors.

If you go to Bristol, UWE or not; I would recommend against bringing your car. Its a nightmare I promise you!

Bristol is a rubbish, seriously if you dont cut the academic mustard then try Manchester Met, not UWE. Manchester is a great place to be a student, Bristol isn't. Trust me I've studied in both!

i have a job, 18k a year with no hope of getting more/moving up from the bottom of the barrel and i work with people who i wish bad things upon/hate.

Well im coming 20 and have left this 2 long and messed up enough i think so i was just hoping to get into any uni possible and get back on track although i have heard that UWE isn't the best place to go.

Is there anywhere i can find out which unis are classed as good and such, liek an official rating table

Yes it is, I'm not being elitist here. It's a second rate university and he should know this before he goes. Check out the Sunday Times good university guide before you apply.

The uni of Bristol is a world class uni, UWE i, well just isn't

Nobody has said it is? Personally I didn't give to ticks about how 'good' the uni was when i chose, i looked for courses i liked in an area i'd liked to be. Computer Engineering in Bristol came up trumps (narrowly beating 3d animation in Stafford, mainly because stafford is just a field with a uni in!).

Just trying to give advice that will get this guy a job mate, nothing personal abot UWE. In my own opinion uni's like UWE shouldn't exist, the fact that people with out AT LEAST BBB at alevel get to go to university is ridiculous

University should be treated as a priviledge not a right IMO.

Ah. Well, both Uni's are supposed to be as good as one another, but UWE is better known.

I would go to UWE, as I have already said. However, rather than do the foundation year.... resit college and get some better A levels and re-apply instead.

That would be pointless though as foundation will get me access to UWE, unless you ment re apply to better places

well i was thinking of doing the first year at Preston and then moving to UWE after if i didn't get to attached
