Might be worth looking in the MM for a 2nd hand GT?

£100 might be pushing it but OcUK prices have caused a drop in the 2nd hand market. I think a 8800 GTX went for £150 Inc last week.
 
Get the 9600GT then - That will give the best performance no problem and has much better HD playback than the 320mb GTS :).

I think you're right, at that resolution the 320mb card was faster but I'm sure it was a pre-overclocked GTS card that was pulling ahead. I think the stock 320mb card was about the same although I'm not at all sure on this.

Yeah I agree. The two cards would be fine but now we have 9600 and 8800GT which kinda makes our posts useless :o. Oops :D.

MSI nVidia Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB O'C Version.
GeCube ATi Radeon HD 3850 Pro 512MB Turbo-X III O'C Version.

and now the PNY 9600GT 512MB has just been added and is it any better than those listed, i've got the cash and ready to let loose but is it worth going for the 9600GT now it's within my price range.

I think we tried to answer his original question correctly its just the playing field got bigger mate :D

Certainly worth saving the pennies for the next level up but saying that you have to draw a line somewhere.
 
Yea your right, we could well be here all day. All three are within my price range now and time to decide so i can order, what you reckon then fellas what's the final word on what to get.
 
I'm hoping to raise some extra funds now buy selling a few things so hopefully i'll be returning later saying i've got extra funds available, should be going ahead with the purchase on Monday probably for the 9600GT if not better hopefully.
 
Yeah if you get the extra so you can afford the 8800 GT then go for that, but if you can't then get the 9600 GT, as its the best of the rest. :)
 
9600GT is probably the card i'm ending up going for, for £108 inc P&P here at OcUK then i'll put an order in on Monday for it if I can't raise the bar in the funding department.

I've been looking at these three solidly. The two i've listed are O'Ced how does it stack up against the 9600GT?
 
9600gt is an excellent card and when overclocked will beat a stock 8800gt, the performance difference between the cards at stock is only a few frames anyway, all reviews show this, 9600gt best bang for buck you can get.:D Go for the cheapest 9600 you can find and OC it.;)
 
9600GT. Still try and save that £17, if you possibly can, so you can go for the 8800GT, but if you absolutely can't, take the 9600GT.

Also i advise you to scour the MM and see if there's anything there that can be had...

The 8800 320 is slower than the 8800GT 512 has its has a G80 core and fewer SP's.

The 9600GT is slower than the 8800GT

Unless you are on a struct budget then paying an extra 17 quid for a 8800GT is a no brainer.

The 8800GT is a better card than the 9600GT period.
