Choices

The low down. I started a very interesting job based in London with 80% travel to clients globally. Work is interesting and paid ok. And when on site per diems where rather good and salary was untouched.

In March I resigned as my girlfriend hit the wall mentally and was over worked. We also got the keys to our new house and I thought it fitting to be in sweden for this. Basically I needed to be at home.

Now today I spoke to my old boss and I've been offered a 20% salary increase and with the prospect of working on a highly interesting project based in New York City.

If I take the job it means I will probably see my girlfriend one weekend a month for the next year, not counting holidays.

I am really tempted to go for it, but I am nervous it may wreck our relationship. She has said go for it... but I know she wants me to be around.

what do you think guys?

That really is a killer decision to make dude - how long is the project for? is it a long time? 6 months? a year? 2 years?

If it is not a huge ammount of time, maybe 6 Months or so - it wouldn't put a huge strain on the relationship - however it is also an amazing oppurtunity from the sounds of it, and would be a very good prospect!

<EDIT>Just read it's a year - I'd say that is doable - if you are meant to be together it's possible! plus there are always ways around seeing eachother! she could come see you possibly (although not as often) and also there is still Skype and other video / audio chat apps to keep in touch and be able to see eachother!</EDIT>

Being the romantic I am I'd say stuff her in your suitcase and take her with you. Is there any reason why you wouldn't be able to afford to keep the two of you over there for the year with your higher salary?

You could rent out your house in Sweden (did I get that bit correct?) which should generally cover mortgage costs.

She could but she has three horses and we have a dog so it is not that simple.

Your going to let 3 horses rule your life? I've heard horse meat tastes quite good so free dinners for a year if they are not much cop on the flats!

You will find that there will be loads of people willing to look after your horses, offload them to someone for the year and take the girlfriend. The dog can go with you
