Choosing a new HDD

Keep getting a pop up informing me that my HDD disk is damaged, and that i should back up.
Also, around the start of the year before I had a an SSD, on boot ups, it would inform me of disk problems.
So I guess I should get a new one.

Quick question though:
Does it really matter what HDD I buy?
Is it just a matter of reliability, or do they have different disk speeds ect?

Could anyone recommend a good disk that will likely last a long time

Will be sufficient for storage and program installations.

Stay clear of the WD Black drives - too expensive and now we have decent SSD drives, an anachronism. If it's purely for storage the WD Green drives are a good shout.

Any particular size your after?

I have recently bought a Seagate Barracuda 1tb drive and got no issues, good performance and quite.

Probably 1tb
500gb would be fine, but I guess more is better.

By the time I'd have taken advantage of a 2tb drive, it too would probably be on it's way out

its upto you but you can never have enough storage

and hdd's are cheap

the 2tb barracuda there is a good HDD, currently using mine and its been solid so far.
