Choosing a wedding photographer

Back on topic:
OP, the best wedding pictures I've seen are those taken by the guests on cheap cameras given out at the start of the wedding. I've seen at least 5 like this and was impressed by them all.
Just remember within a year that very expensive wedding album will be put in the attic and in five years time you might be fighting who gets custody of it.

you haven't seen enough proper wedding photography, would be my response to this! ;)

SGF clearly has his opinion of what makes good wedding photos, which is fine. But to stand there and say this makes all other wedding photographers cack because he prefers snaps on a phone is well...its wrong. Simply put.

Going by the links posted, OP has a style he likes. It's a style which many many many people also like. You know, those out of focus shots :p - so why tell him to get otherwise?

Listen to the OP man! :p

I didn't say they make all all other wedding photographers cack, please don't add things.

The best wedding photographs I've ever seen by a proper photographer was a work colleague of mine. She had it at a posh house in Barlaston and the photography was sublime and all in focus. They really were stunning. Several more girls in the office had similar efforts but not as good. However, I prefer the Kodak jobs I've seen where guests do it, seems more natural to me.

Like i have said many times, your eyes do not see everything in focus, ergo photos with everything in focus are not natural.

It's simply what you prefer.

OK you may not have used the word "cack" specifically but it's been clear on what your opinion is of photos with a lot of bokeh/DoF.

The OP asked what to look for when looking for a wedding photographer, so you posted your preference of photo style, he wasn't asking for that.

He did not ask what your preference was. He asked what to look for in a photographer. Nobody is going to know the OPs preferences on styles better than him. So let him decide what kind of photos he wants.

Of course you are allowed an opinion. It's just that some don't agree with it, that's all :)
The posh house at Barlaston. It wouldn't be the Wedgwood Institute would it?

Edit: Personally I would have cropped the ear/mugshot as imo it's distracting. The rest of the image is comical.

I think every tog has his or hers own style.

It's what style you like that matters,i like some peoples styles especially raymond's and mrk's,they are the people i would have at my wedding as i like there style.

I have browsed the photos in the op and i like them all,a photo tells a story and shouldn't be given to much time to think about it,the one of the ear is fine by me,it tells a story and captured as it should have been.

To many people read far to much into a photo if you ask me.

The style is what matters personally.

How long is a piece of string ahoy....

What's the going rate for a decent photographer these days? £1k? Had a friend of mine pay less than £500 and personally I didn't like them. Just doing some fact finding :D

Do OcUK'ers get a discount with Raymond :D:p?
