choppy playback off external hdd

Hey there.

I've bought myself a WD 500gb hdd, the 5000aaks (thank you ocuk )
I've formatted it in ntfs and somehow still figured out how to read and write from a macbook (macfuse and ntfs-3g).

The issue I'm having is playing back audio or video from the usb 2.0 connected drive. The playback tends to pause every so often. I can understand that using usb is most likely the problem.

I'm wondering if anyone has any solutions to this issue?

I'm betting it's because you have it set as a storage (backup) drive rather than a proper data drive.

My mate had the same problem.

Is that a setting within mac os x? I've left it all default.
