Hi all,

Still early I know, but this year I wanted to try some meat from elsewhere - in previous years we've tried meats (Turkey & Duck) from the Tesco Finest range, a local butcher, and from Waitrose. Out of them, I've been a big fan of the Waitrose one as the recipe and cooking method has remained the same throughout the years, however our guests over Xmas seem to love the taste/texture/quality of meat.

I wanted to try and expand on it this year and try somewhere else, where do you fine people get your Xmas meats from?

I'd like to find an independent place after seeing some of the quality of other meats people have bought online :D

Thanks.

Peachcroft Farm in Abingdon, Oxfordshire do goose and turkey. I think they do mail order. They do two varieties of turkey one of which has been raved about on various food programmes (memory fails me but may have been bronze turkey).

I've had theres in the past and was good but I can't remember if value for money.

A butchers down the road, they do really high end meat, award winning sausages and pies and a few other bits.

I couldn't imagine going to the supermarket if you could afford not to, the Christmas meal should be decadence and fine ingredients.

Trying a new brine for the turkey this year. I don't mind goose but with a family like mine you need a turkey and usually a joint of meat on top (beef/ pork).

We have our first Christmas meal this weekend, as we're back in Newcastle, so it's pork belly this weekend from the butchers. We'll do fillet of beef for actual Christmas day and that'll be from our local butchers. Then we have a Turkey Christmas dinner after the event with my mum's side. #fatty

Brill thanks - I've had a quick look and that seems to be great.

Exactly how I feel about it, the other 364 days can be filled with Asda smart price chicken for all I care, but Christmas dinner has to be packed with butter, lard, goose fat, and pretty much all the other bad but delicious things :p

Oh yes, if it isn't an excessive banquet of winning then I don't wanna know about it!

Last year I bought from Westin Gourmet online.

Gourmet Christmas Feast

2.4kg Christmas Turkey Breast Roast
1kg Cumberland Cocktail Sausages
2.27kg Unsmoked Streaky Bacon
100g Christmas Sage & Onion Stuffing
125ml Cranberry Sauce with Port
170g Cottage Delight Goose Fat
Barry Colenso Artisan After Dinner Treats (3x 50g)

£62.10 delivered 2 days before Christmas Day

Was awesome but the stuffing was a bit pants, not enough for the size of the meat delivered. Took me weeks to get through all that bacon too.

Not sure I will do that again as it's only me and the girlfriend this year. So probably get a beef joint and a whole chicken, plenty of roasters, veg and pigs in blankets
