My son has offered to get me a new graphics card for chrimbo. Looking at my set up below, what do the collective think would be a worthwhile upgrade? I play sniper elite, train sim, MS flight sim and cities skylines, if that is any help. I obviously don't want him to spend an arm and a leg, so a small improvement would absolutely fine. Thanks.

Difficult without a price range. If he knows computers he'll have a realistic expectation it's going to cost £300+ but if he doesn't he might only be expecting to spend say £100.

I see you're on AMD currently I would recommend the 9600XT 16gb

16gb is important as below that your are just going to run into problems with some games you cannot get around

RX 590 is outdated and has no driver support, so even a 1660ti would be an upgrade really. While i have and most likely never will experience anything like a 5090, the games you play, it will be way overkill especially how much they cost.

While i havent got those games installed on my pc yet, ive just picked up an 8gb 5050 which should do well in those games and be a big upgrade also. Didnt cost that much(under 250). Mine is the Low profile version due to case limitations, but a full size version should be had cheap too. an RX 7600 would probably be better if you can find one cheap enough, Not sure how much a 5060 is going for.

Just to clear up my confusion, 9600XT and 9060XT both seem to be the prefered choice, which is it please?
9060xt - there is no 9600xt. it's just a 'typo' by people too lazy check their spelling. they 9060xt's are however around 100 quid more expensive than they were a couple of months ago and as such aren't anywhere near as attractive an option as they were.

If you want to stretch a bit further, the 9070/9070XT are both 16GB cards, and a substantial jump up from the 9060XT (the 9070XT is similar performance to a 5070Ti...which are currently around £900); and can be had around £500-600.
Those would be an absolutely tremendous jump over your older RX590, and should last you for many years, as it'd have more to give in the tank if you upgraded to a newer platform in a few years. With the recent rises on the 9060XT 16GB, the 9070XT might be that bit more tempting if you can get one on a nice deal :)

I hate userbenchmark, but even that estimates the 9070XT average model, is +310% of the performance of an average 590. AKA over 4x as fast.
The 9060XT is listed as +170% so it'd be around 2.5x the speed of your RX590.
The 9070XT is a decent jump again as can probably seen by that consideringly higher percentage increase, and might be worth it to you if you intend to keep the card for quite some time.

The only thing to be aware of is your PSU might struggle with the 9070XT, BUT it'd probably be ok because the rest of your system is not a power hog. :)

Having had both of them (9070XT/9060XT 16GB) in front of me running the same 3DMark benchmarks the 9060XT is around 60% of the performance of the 9070XT at 1440p. Things don't improve at higher resolutions.

The 9070XT is better value but the 9060XT is a very nice card for 1440p gaming and uses half the power of its "big brother" (9070XT) so there's a lot less heat being generated.

I had a Sapphire Pure 9070XT and a Powercolor 9060XT Reaper last year which I tested.
