Chrome and Flash - massively annoying problem with CPU usage!

Hey,

I'm using the latest stabe version of Chrome (22.0.1229.79), with no other Flash players installed on the system.

Whenever I enable the inbuilt Flash plug-in the CPU usage shoots up to 50% (one core of my C2D just gets hammered) and the entire system becomes unusable. Exact same problem on my laptop (25% on an i5 - system still becomes unusable!).

WTAF is this nonsense? I read that it's caused by clashing versions of Flash - there used to be three versions showing in chrome://plugins, but I got rid of the others, and now only PepperFlash is showing, so it must be the problem!

Does anyone have any advice on how to sort this please?

Cheers,

Suman

yeah depends, some flash vids 1080p can give me quite high cpu usage on my 3570k. pepper flash is a little broken imo, and it doesn't use hardware acceleration either. so yes, it will use your cpu to render flash. it's not a bug, pepper flash is just not that great yet. a suggested fix from me personally would be to use firefox for the time being

I think I have broken my Chrome now...

I installed the standalone Flash plug-in and disabled PepperFlash from the chrome://plugins screen. However, PepperFlash still kept randomly reenabling itself (and then causing the entire machine to hardlock), so I just deleted the DLL from the relevant folder :p

Now Chrome no longer plays any YouTube videos - I just get a message saying "This video is currently unavailable".

I am being pushed slowly back towards Firefox...

*Sigh*

chrome is obviously the better browser for browsing, but firefox is still the power user browser, and still very viable for browsing. i frankly hate the pepper flash rubbish too
