Chrome for iOS

Grazing has been my main iPad browser for a long time, will give Chrome a shot and see how it fares.

It's not, Anandtech have benchmarks. No in-app browser can be faster than Safari on iOS as Apple restricts access to its fast JavaScript engine to just Safari.

I've seen the benchmarks before downloading, but it did feel faster. Did have a further play around, but after using Chrome a bit further, Safari does feel a tad faster. Uninstalled for now as I wasn't particularly happy with the poor scrolling performance during page loads.

Gave it a go - seems pretty nice - but I don't see much advantage to using Chrome over Safari. I'll probably keep it for incognito mode...

No bookmark bar. Grrr. The only thing that will move me from
safari is touch gestures (one that will get me to the bottom of the page) and a bookmark bar!

Grazing has a bookmarks bar and quite a few Gestures which is why I use it. Although not sure about one that jumps to the bottom of a page.

Chrome is pretty nice, just missing gestures imo.

I just don't see the advantage to be honest.. I also dislike the back button being in the top left. I don't like the UI either really on the phone, it was better on the iPad.

Will stick with safari :)

I saw 1 thing I liked: The button what lets you request desktop sites (didn't test it)
The incognito mode I guess would be half decent, but Safari has a private browsing mode (through settings)

Mercury seems the bette browser so far with full gesture support as well as private browsing, tabs etc along with Firefox sync.

Will try it a little longer though

Nice to see Chrome finally make it to iOS, but a shame that it's missing a few bits and pieces.

For me, it needs a Home button on the toolbar, an easier way to browse your bookmarks (ideally a drop-down menu), some form of AdBlock and a way of customising the Most Visited page/screen.

Tested to be slower but I'm not really seeing that. Or maybe the shiny is convincing me otherwise?

I'm really liking the different layout, how multiple tabs are handled and the full website button, kudos to google. Now just get working on performance :)

To be fair by "much slower" I mean like 600ms :p

I like that you can talk to search :D

Using the latest iPad I have found Chrome to be a little slow at times.

Scrolling gets a little juddery, and seeing grey screens when switching tabs.

After being spoilt with Google Chome everywhere on all my devices I'm not prepared to use Safari.

Anyone else having issues?

Yeh I get the grey screen when changing tab issue which is rather annoying. Also I find if I accidentally swipe at the left side of the screen the tab changes. I'm sure this is a feature but I find it more of an annoyance. The Syncing of addresses I have visited is nice though.

pinch zoom and scrolling seems buggy, i like the look and feel as well as the options, and would be willing to lose a little speed for these, but right now it's just a bit jittery.

When it's ironed out I'll certainly be moving across to it.
